how long of an extension do you think? maybe like 12 inch?Go to Harbor Freight and buy the three armed style along with a long extension or extensions for your ratchet. It's what I had to use on mine after breaking other methods. The three armed style will tighten on the end of the filter.
I bought a set of 3 and with what I have my ratchet is outside of the body line. It really is up to you where you'd like to work from and of course how much wrenching you plan to do in the future.how long of an extension do you think? maybe like 12 inch?
This! I just went through the same thing a few weeks ago. I normally do oil changes with the truck on the ground, but needed to jack up the left front tire to get enough leverage to get it off. I used a 12" extension with the 3 arm universal oil filter adapter. Worked like a charm! I was sure not to over tighten it this time.Go to Harbor Freight and buy the three armed style along with a long extension or extensions for your ratchet. I’m 27 and will take this advice. Just tryna save a few dollars and do it myself. Thank youBe sure to put some oil on the gasket of the new filter and hand tighten only. I do it this way and have never had a leaker in 62 years of changing my oil. I have also never had a situtaion where I couldn't get one off doing it this way.
I’ve spent an extra $50 today… still at $140 total with oil, filter, and cabin filter. Cheaper than the dealership but yeah lol pain in the ass. Still can’t get it offIt's sad that whatever tools you have to spend money on to get that filter off, may conceivably be the last time you use them, after properly installing filters from here on.
That and/or gorilla tight. Amazing how hard some of these shops crank them on. Oil the filter gasket and hand tight on my vehicles for decades and never had an issue.Who put this filter on? They had to have installed it with a dry gasket.
The dealer did this to me twice, I don't take it there anymore. I have to remove that plastic deflector off of the bottom of the filter location, that would give me room under there.Who put this filter on? They had to have installed it with a dry gasket.
