Olaf, my new (in March) 6g came without a keyless entry keypad. When I ordered it (last year) I thought I'd make it easy (and cheap) and just peel off the one on Pepper (my 2019) and stick it on the new truck. I had the code credit card from new. But then I read somewhere the batteries only last 4-5 years, and can't be replaced, so I left it on when she got traded.

I really miss that keypad, so when Ford was just having a 20% off sale on accessories, I burned 20,000 points and got a new one, for around $100. I decided not to prepay dealer install for about $50 when I ordered online, figuring I'd do it myself. Lol. When I found out that was not possible without FDRS, whatever the heck that is, and a gold plated super Elon Musk cable (both around $2000 +$600) I told the dealer to do it last week when Olaf went in for his first 5k service. The tab for install was $130. I complained, but got no relief. My bad. The dealer has been really good with me, so it's on me.

Haven't been on here for awhile, and don't check in on 6g, those guys are not as much fun! Just wondering if anyone has had battery failure on their keypad? I should have re-used my original. And has anyone had to replace them?
Cheers,
Trevor

The keypad on my '12 Focus lasted about 7 years. I hope to get more out of the one on the Ranger because I more often use the app to unlock it. That said, I have read of people actually able to replace the "unreplaceable" battery in these. Might have to do a little digging.
As a side note, my keypad saved my butt once when I accidentally locked the keys AND my phone inside.

Glad to see you Trevor, they always come back:p....6G isn't all that fun.

I always read it was best to order the keypad from the factory because it includes the code and you don't have to pay the dealer to instal it. I had this keypad saved (I don't remember who's it was) where it was taken apart and there is a button batter inside. Looks like you'll need a box of paper clips too. :giggle:

I don't think that is true. I researched pretty hard when I bought mine, ended up just burning some points and had the dealer install it.

When I was going to buy my Bronco I talked to 2 different dealers about this. They both confirmed that if ordered from the factory there was no charge from the dealer for set up. That was 4 years ago and I'm not sure if anything's changed since then.?‍♂

Ah, the way you originally put it, I thought you meant it you didn't need a dealer to program it. It makes sense that if you bought it yourself they would definitely charge you to program it. Yes, a dealer has to do it. (pretty sure)

I like the location of the keypad, much better then on the door where it looks out of place..

Yeah, I shoulda ordered it on the new truck...which is what I did with the spray in bedliner this time. Even if I'd repurposed the old keypad from Pepper, I'd still be stuck with the dealer programming it. Overall, pretty happy with the '24. The wireless Android Auto sucks however, very finicky connecting, & randomly disconnecting. Even my dealer couldn't set it up to work...
Thanks for the feedback guys...

Ordering with the truck is a bit cheaper at $95, but they are going to stick it on the door.

That's an easy fix. Just remove it with dental floss/fishing line and add some Gorilla tape and stick it anywhere you want. Inside the gas door is the best spot.

Not mine but just showing where it can be placed
