Please include me in that. I followed your, “by that, I mean mishimoto’s” posts in the mustang6g.com forum when you were designing and working on the Mustang catch can. I had already purchased and installed Bob’s Catch Can. What I liked about Bob’s were the options they provided on the new connection hoses. Has Mishimoto considered these as options?
Hi Rich, the hoses and fittings supplied with this kit will be a regular nitrile hose with the OEM quick-disconnects on the engine side and our push-on hose barbs on the catch can side. We do offer an adapter to run AN lines with our catch cans (which can be found here), so you could purchase two of those and re-use the OEM QD's that come with the catch can to make your own AN hoses.

Please include me on that as well!
Just subscribe to this thread or subscribe to our blog for the announcement!

I'm interested to see what the final product will look like, and if it allows me to retain the engine cover, I'd definitely be interested in joining the pre-sale.
Our catch can will work with the stock engine cover :)

Thanks!
-Steve

Hey everybody,

We're excited to share that this can can kit is now on pre-sale! Click here to check it out on our website and check out the final post in our R&D to see what our catch can caught.

Thanks!
-Steve

Our 2019+ Ford Ranger has been roaming the streets of Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey for the past 1,000 miles testing our direct-fit oil catch can. In this post, we’ll be emptying the catch can to see what, if anything, it caught. If all goes to plan, we’ll also be kicking off the pre-sale so you can protect your Ranger from blow-by, without blowing your budget.

Hi John,

Sorry about that, looks like there was an issue with uploading the guide to the website. Here's the video guide:

Thanks Steve. Great video.

Could you do me a favor and check to see what oil brand, type and viscosity was used in the truck that did the test?

Go to 6:23 in the video above. The can is in front of the radiator. Here's a screen grab:

Our truck is still pretty low mileage, so it was still on the factory fill of Motorcraft 5W-30 :)

It's very accessible once installed, it sits just in front of the upper rad support

Up for another test?

What would be sweet is to change the motor oil to Mobil 1 Annual Protection Ultimate Full Synthetic SAE 5W-30 to see the difference in what the can collects.

The Motorcraft 5W-30 Blend doesn't have very good NOACK Volatility test scores, it rates about 15.2% compared to Mobil 1 Annual Protection Ultimate Full Synthetic SAE 5W-30 which rates at 8.5%.

Logic would tell us that a less volatile oil should result in less gunk in the pcv system. The catch can would tell us if that was in fact the case.

@Mishimoto Would I have to worry about this thing freezing and causing problems in the winter? Also, if you only put the catch can on the pcv side, what about possible oil and condensation in the ccv side?

This might be a dumb question but here we go... Since it seems the factory oil separator is doing its job, and you are only catching fuel and condensation in the catch can, without a catch can wouldn't that fuel be sent through the intake manifold and technically washing over the intake valves helping reduce carbon deposits?

It does but it only travels through the 1-2 valves directly behind the PCV inlet so only those stay somewhat clean. That's what I think I remember them saying in one of the walnut blasting videos I watched. :sunglasses:

Very little fuel is in the pvc. It's more oil than anything. I've posted pictures of what I've emptied out of the can.

So what’s the consensus? Is this the best catch can or should I purchase from somewhere else?

Hi,

You pay your money and you take your chances.

I choose to leave it OEM. Good luck with your decision. Being inside the company for 30 years, if it was something that was imperative Ford would have incorporated it. I would reconsider if Ford Performance offered this to the buyer as I know they would have tested this to ensure it met Ford Requirements. So Best of luck with your decision on an unproven mod.

Best,
