So this seams a lot less involved than rebuild or replace, it that correct?
Nothing has changed from prior TSBs to this one, when it gets down to the CDF Drum replacement.
The Transmission still has to be removed and partially disassembled to access the required parts that need replaced.
So, they are not short cutting anything, the fact that this (Current) TSB is basically giving direct specific instructions (as it is on Ford's dime) it's basically telling the tech - do not veer off course unless you note damage outside of this area.
Basically - DO NOT perform your own procedure, follow this TSB precisely.

For me as a technician if I was a - Transmission Specialist who has taken apart a transmission numerous times then this TSB would be easy, and I would feel confident that this TSB would cure the issue.
The problem is most dealership level technicians do not perform enough of these to become efficient in quality as a technician who (rebuilds) these daily.

This alone should drive home the need to have this TSB - Replace the Transmission with new or remanufactured - let the Technicians who can do this with their eyes closed, Rebuild and Recertify the transmission - this way the whole assembly can be torn down and each part is certified and inspected before its reassembled vs the Band-Aid fix that this TSB drives

I suspect most technicians feel the same way, but their hands are tied by Ford Corporate (Warranty Department)

I’m wondering if that may be driving the replacements we’re seeing. As recent as today ( @Vr22s ). Dealer either is not competent or doesn’t want the liability and opts out for a new replacement.

I was thinking that as a possibility myself. This dealership is pretty big here in Utah so I think it is the latter.

I'd guess that most dealers are loaded up with 'parts swappers' as opposed to people that can actually tear into something and replace components.

Really, to do a transmission right, it has to come out, get torn the whole way down, cleaned within an inch of its life, and reassemble. Easier/cheaper to plonk a factory new unit in and send it.

Wait they downgraded the transmission for the new style?? Maybe I’m wrong, but baring the glaring issues with the 10r80s, isn’t it still the stronger transmission? I thought the 10r60s were just in explorers? I don’t pay much attention to ford specs anymore as just not interested in another vehicle from them - so it’s possible I am incorrect in my assumption.
I traded my ranger for a bronco an I will say the 10R60 is WAY smoother an shifts better than my ranger did. I only put 46K on mine but I never had a problem with the trans, it just wasn't as smooth.

On the bronco forums I don't see any complaints about trans failures like on here. The bronco is only rated to tow 3,500 lbs. I read somewhere the the difference in performance is torque rating not tow rating but who knows.

I also saw the internals in the 10r60 are 60 pounds lighter, I assume that's the main shaft an drums.

Yep just do it!

Even a diag. would be cheaper than a new/rebuilt transmission.
Thank you all for the information.
Called my closer dealer, and he gave me an appointment on the 14th to check it out. He has a loaner vehicle also. ?

Finally got her back, glad I didnt have to pay that bill.
Feels like it rides smoother, new trans is still learning itself though.

On a side note, my one automatic window doesnt work anymore... Ill have to address that later.

Probably just need to reset the window because they might have unplugged the battery. Just press and hold to roll up or down and keep it held for a few seconds and it should start working like normal ??

Interesting. The MSRP for the transmission with the core is $3953.33. They’re proud of their price. Fortunately you didn’t have to pay!

Ford has updated the TSB for the 10R80. It’s no longer 24-2101 and is now 25-2024.
Here’s a link to read it ( nothing available to copy yet)
https://www.ford.com/support/service-information/

Either put your VIN in or year/model info. It’s the first TSB listed that mentions 10R80.
They’ve developed a extensive testing procedure to check the CDF for leakage. Also the verbiage for replacing the transmission under LTIS is gone
well shit, my 2019 only has 44k on it but certainly out of any warranty since I bought it used. Thankfully haven’t had anything except for a few odd shifts on cold mornings

Just adding my experience here. I have a 2022 4x4 delivered in March of that year, 70K miles. Fortunately, I got the extended warranty. When I took in my Ranger the service department was able to see the transmission was having problems. After looking it over I was told the transmission was "condemned" and that it needed replacing. The rebuilt transmission is coming in from Ford this week and hopefully next week my Ranger will be up and running. The big concern I had was whether or not the warranty company would fulfill their obligation.

Glad you’re getting it covered. I’m wondering why they didn’t put a new transmission in it. They’re so inexpensive now. Around $2500-$3000 range. Last I checked the remans were much more expensive. I mean it’s their dime but ….

What I was told is that they take a used housing and everything else is new. Perhaps a better term is remanufactured. From what I read this should be a much better transmission.
