Nothing has changed from prior TSBs to this one, when it gets down to the CDF Drum replacement. So this seams a lot less involved than rebuild or replace, it that correct?
The Transmission still has to be removed and partially disassembled to access the required parts that need replaced.
So, they are not short cutting anything, the fact that this (Current) TSB is basically giving direct specific instructions (as it is on Ford's dime) it's basically telling the tech - do not veer off course unless you note damage outside of this area.
Basically - DO NOT perform your own procedure, follow this TSB precisely.
For me as a technician if I was a - Transmission Specialist who has taken apart a transmission numerous times then this TSB would be easy, and I would feel confident that this TSB would cure the issue.
The problem is most dealership level technicians do not perform enough of these to become efficient in quality as a technician who (rebuilds) these daily.
This alone should drive home the need to have this TSB - Replace the Transmission with new or remanufactured - let the Technicians who can do this with their eyes closed, Rebuild and Recertify the transmission - this way the whole assembly can be torn down and each part is certified and inspected before its reassembled vs the Band-Aid fix that this TSB drives
I suspect most technicians feel the same way, but their hands are tied by Ford Corporate (Warranty Department)
