I've seen the thread about the Lariat headlight swap on an XLT. I was wondering if anyone knows if the Lariat headlights will work on an XL? Are there significant differences in the wiring harness? I couldn't deal with the painted bumper and fender flares so I got an XL, but alas I long for the modern look of the LED headlights.

I don't see why they won't work?! You should be able to plug them in and I will start working right away. If anything you will have to go into one of the modules with forscan to do some minor adjustments.

I too am curious about this. If its as simple as buying Lariat LED's and slapping 'em in, I'm definitely gonna have to do that

I can't see why there would be any differences. XL and XLT headlights are the same. If, for some strange reason it doesn't work, you'd only be out some time as I'd imagine you could flip them to an XLT owner pretty quick.

Aren't they like $800 each?? They can't be that good.
You would be surprised at how good OEM LED headlights have gotten to be especially compared to drop in replacements in reflector housings. For the Ranger, other than the cut-off and center hot spot being less than ideal (personal opinion), the light output and coverage area of the OEM LED's are fantastic. They rival if not surpass the OEM HID's in both my wife's '14 Santa Fe, as well as my 08 VW GTI. On those I had even upgraded the lenses with optically clear non-fresnel lenses to reduce light spray and better focus the available light.

Depends on where you buy them.
I found mine on the Bay for 500 for the pair shipped.

They are a HUGE improvement over the halogen bulb lights, and as stated, factory LED’s are very well designed.

I drive primarily at night, and this swap was a must, after getting rid of a 2020 Kia Soul turbo that has REALLY good LED headlights.

I ended up finding some on eBay for a great price. They are plug and play. The only issue I noticed is that in auto mode during the day, the low beams come on without the DRLs. I'm sure this can be tweaked in Forscan, but for now an excellent appearance upgrade to my XL.

That's because on your XL lights the low beam was your DRL. Yes you need to go into Forscan and change your DRL options to set them to the outline LEDs.

Just checked. My BdyCM configuration spreadsheet. I believe the setting you need to change are:

Allowed DRL Options to Dedicated DRL or All Options
DRL Configuration to Dedicated DRL

There are other options but I believe are the ones for the standard Lariat setup. Maybe someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I'm still running my XLT lights.

Thanks for the info. It's nice to know what to look for before digging into the programming.

Read the XLT thread - and use the latter settings.
Swapped mine and love it. Do need to re-aim, mine are too low so no hurry. But hardest part is findindg some place to do it. Need to be 25ft away from a wall and level. Or I am using a projected laser level line.
Anyway, well worth it! And watch ebay for deals, I got mine for $400 for the set. Broken tabs is common, but depending on which ones not an issue.

I used the wall behind my local grocery store late at night. A tape measure and some masking tape got the job done in about 10 minutes.
