Is a 10,000 mile oil change interval ideal for the 2.3L?

Ford says 10k, I use full synthetic, use not abuse, I think I'm good.

Really, 10k to appease tree huggers??? How so?..
You're using half as much fermented dinosaur juice as someone who changes every 5k.

To answer the original question, you don't really know for sure unless you get a used oil analysis.
Change the oil at 5000 miles and get a used oil analysis.
Run the next batch using the same brand of oil and filter for 10,000 miles, get another used oil analysis, and see how they compare. Or just wing it and get it tested after 10,000 miles.
Blackstone will give you a recommendation.
It costs about $35.

I did my first oil change right at 1200 miles on the Ranger and 1400 miles on the Edge. Next one will be at 3k miles and then every 5k after that. I use whatever Ford recommends because it is done at the dealer. I could do it myself but at this point in my life I just don't feel like it

Not even remotely true. Brand is basically irrelevant. You can use any major oil supplier as long as the oil is the correct viscosity and satisfies the Ford oil spec. You can use a different brand every oil change if you want and it won't make a single difference.
Yes and no…Not any brand has the same quality. Yes any other good brand works. and NO , 10k miles or more than 6 months you’ll reduce the lifetime of your engine….
Is what I learn on my previous work at ford assembly in Valencia - Venezuela. each car has a specific manual. But we have free will. Enjoy.

The oil life monitor should be taking into account your driving and environmental conditions. I've had vehicles with that feature in the past and it definitely would change the interval based on the type of driving and outside temps etc. I dont think it actually giving you that 10k miles is likely. Even with a relatively easy drive (not hilly, not hot, not start/stop traffic) my previous vehicle never went beyond about 7500 on its oil life.

I change every 5k and was getting every other oil change done at the dealer for warranty purposes, plus they rotated the tires, until they raised the price to $79. Ridiculous, I'll jack it up and roll the tires around myself.

I will find out soon. Just sent my factory fill to Blackstone for an analysis. It came out nice and clean with zero sludge under the filler cap and the oil was dark, but not extremely dark. No shiny metals in my drain pan, the only frustrating part was oil getting all over the skid plate…

The dealership could barely tell me what the oci was. One person said 7500 miles, another was sure it was 10. I did the first one after about 1500 miles then about 6000 the times after. I have ford do it mainly for the paperwork in case if warranty needs

Thanks! Two things I’d like to solve are an easier to remove skid plate (is tilting the truck easier to get to the drain or would the ValvoMax help with that also) and an oil filter wrench. Man, both of those make this not a 10 minute oil change in tight driveways.
With the Valvomax no removal of the skid plate is necessary. A clear plastic tube is included that hangs down to your drain pan. I have a filter wrench that on a long extension loosens the oil filter. I dont remove the tire or turn the wheels to remove it. Not that far of a reach. I think the wrench was $6 frim Autozone. I'll check the # on it and post it up this pm when I get off work! Hope this helps!

Thank you. I am stock but have 32” tires (from the factory). That wrench would be awesome, no rush but would be nice to have for every future oil change.

Warming the Ranger up decided to take a pic real quick. This wrench fits the Motorcraft filter perfect.

Thank you!

I know color isn't an indication of oil quality, but what came out of my Ranger (factory fill) was very clean.

Stay tuned for Blackstone report. I hope it turns out in spec and not too thin.
