This is my 2nd post on this thread as a follow up to the 1st on 06/17/21. I'm giving this notice because I don't want to get in trouble with Dave. He is the official 5g thread monitor and will bust you if you post out of order or open an old thread that is no longer active :stop:

I was looking for an F-150 because some of the early reports on the Ranger were negative but eventally with more testing and input the overall results were favorable. Fortunately, I discovered before buying an F-150 that my garage was not long enough for it to fit into reasonably. Would have had only 1" clearance from the front of the garage to the inside of the garage door.

I have previouly owned two earlier model Rangers and an import truck for which are points of reference for comparison. To present have had no problems and not dissappointed with the Ranger...glad I bought it instead

MAD GERMAN SAID:
”Hi all. I've done some searching but wanted to get some new/updated opinions on the truck's quality & reliability. I'm going to be buying one of these: Chevy ZR2, Ford Ranger Tremor, Toyota TRD Off Road (or TRD Pro). Each of these trucks has their + and - points. I also understand that each brand has their own set of fanboys, some are more rabid than others. You know who you are, haha!

Since I'm looking at spending $45-50,000, I'm trying to do my research as thorough as I can.
……..
* If you were buying today, would you still choose the Ranger? Why?
* What problems have you had that disappointed you in the Ranger?
* Were these issues significant enough to cause you to doubt the reliability of the truck?
* What other trucks did you look at before buying the Ranger?
* What did you like & dislike about them?

REPLY:
I Still prefer the High MPG, 4WD driveline handling, tow-rating and Best-looking-appearance-(inside & Outside), upgraded trim features and the exclusive options of the 2021 4WD SuperCrew Lariat Trim level, Because for ME…
1) Lariat Standard and trim exclusive LED headlights, are Excellent and prefer over XL or XLT halogens;
2) I prefer the Lariat Option package #501A, which includes desirable and exclusive features, such as upgraded B&O 10-speaker audio, front sensors, And *Greatly-Appreciated ADAPTIVE Cruise control, leather seating, remote-start.
3) 110 volt AC inverter/outlet, And other tech.
4) I Trust FORD ESP (extended service plan) option, over Nissan extended warranty.

I test-drove a new Frontier and a Ranger: I bought a new 2021 Ranger Supercrew 4WD Lariat…

I had to be patient to find a new 2021 SuperCrew that suited me, (wanted lighter color & desired options) but I finally did locate one.

Yes, there are some other features of the other trucks you listed as candidates for you and your wallet, but I bought the 2021 Ranger and believe that I got my money’s worth. Yup !
I like it.

The brake-pedal travel is the only negative but I am getting used to it. The actual braking action is fine.

My post is based on personal preferences and actual 5K driving experiences, since taking delivery in late May 2021.

I’ve had my 2021 Lariat FX4 for almost a month and just over 1,800 miles. It may be early to say it, but yes, I’d buy it again. When it comes to trucks, I am a diehard Ford fan. From my ‘64 F100, to my 93 Ranger STX, to my “99 F250 Super Duty, my 2 E450 RVs and my 2013 Lincoln MKX they have all been great vehicles and well suited to the tasks I bought them for. I had a Maverick on order but found my Ranger on a local dealer’s lot and bought it.

Mine is fully loaded and carried an MSRP of just over $46,000. I bought it for $42,000. What I like over the Maverick is firstly the seating position. You sit up in this truck which takes you above the rain spray from lower vehicles. I like that it fits in my garage. It has plenty of pep and the bed is slightly longer than the Maverick. We travel from WA to FL and back every year so we wanted a comfortable ride and as one of those trips is during winter, 4WD was a must have. This truck has delivered on those. I am not a fan of electric or hybrid vehicles so this has a tried and true drivetrain,

Things I don’t like are the start stop feature, the lack of a sunroof and the tinny doors. So far my liar gauge claims 21.8 MPG which is great.

This is my 4th “last vehicle”. So that’s why I wanted everything on it. I’m looking forward to many miles of enjoyment.
Last vehicle? I've lost track of the number of times I've said that...

That's like saying "this is my last mod". Those words should be banned on here. :stop::piggybank:

Funny because all I ever owned were F150's and I have no desire to go back to one. They served there purpose when I needed a larger truck for my business but now the Ranger does. For me it's the perfect size! Plus before they weren't so large and would actually fit into the garage. I just cant see buying a brand new vehicle and leaving it outside especially here with our heat. It's bad enough getting into my truck when it's in the garage never mind baking in the 110+ heat all day. ?

I love the new Lightning but again it's way to big. I'm really looking forward to the new PHEV Ranger. I'm sure it'll take a couple of years to perfect it but I think that will be the perfect mid size truck when they do.
I had a 2001 F150 for 20 years and as I was looking into new trucks I was thinking current f150s are the size of f250s 20 years ago. I thought I only had the option of getting a maverick to get something not so overbearing. Then I happen on to the ranger (I had no clue they were back) and now I think the ranger is the size of my old f150. Which also makes me not care about the tailgate damper :giggle:

My 2021 STX is likely my last vehicle. I ordered it built exactly, or as close as I could, to what I wanted. I would've ordered one even if there was one just like it on the lot. Like many of us with ≤ 24' x 22' garages with a workbench, an F-Series was just too big. We both are very pleased with it and find it much more to our liking than the 2018 Escape we had
Now her vehicle might or might not be the last: 2009 Mercury Mariner AWD, 127xxx mi.; nicer in almost every respect than the Escape was. She/we only drive it ~6,000 mi/yr nowadays and it is in excellent condition, so it will probably last until long after we've forgotten where the garage is. But if either vehicle turns into a money pit, some sort of BEV or hybrid might be a consideration.
