Im getting ready (grease on the way) to lay underneath and do this and was wondering about the clamps on the boot, size or part #... would a worm clamp work or throw it out of balance 🤔? I don't have the clamp tool either unfortunately...

See post #15 above for a link to the parts needed.

I did see that but I wasn't planning on replacing the boot, I was just gonna cut the one clamp and pull the boot back and lube things up, looking under there, I dont even think I need to remove the flange bolts, once the carrier bearing drops , it should slip out i think...

In the video, he states that the inside diameter of one end of the boot was 42mm and the other end 45mm.

Hmmm, I wonder if the jaws of my PEX plumbing clamp tool would fit the Ranger’s boot clamps. The clamps use exactly the same technology and design but is the part you pinch the same size or too big to fit in the jaws?

I guess I need to crawl under the truck with my clamp tool and check.

It fits perfectly 👌!!!
BUT !!!

When I tried it on the front, it locked on and I had to squeeze it to get it to release and it turns out to be a better clamp remover than clamp installer...

Which i WAS NOT READY TO DO at this time ... these clamps are FAR MORE FLIMSY than pex clamps ... I guess I will put a worm clamp on it for now...

Thanks alot Duke !!!

It is a really quick way to remove them though... the rear clamp let me squeeze all the way to release but the front snapped pretty easily...

Oops, thanks for the warning. Just put a twist-tie on there and it’ll be fine.

All good sir ! I had LOTS of worm clamps but only 1 narrow one... I think a zip tie would hold it if need be but I ordered the clamps and tool ...

Decided to do this today and it has turned into a freaking nightmare! Slipped apart fine and I cleaned it up some and spread a little grease, not to much , and the damn thing won't go back together. It will go maybe an inch and then thats it , ive tried it every which way and if I force it , I have to hammer it back off. It has some kind of blue coating on it and now the grease feels like its got grit in it from the coating and its jamimg up the splines or something. Just ordered a Tom Woods to fix my mistake, even though I'm not sure what it was ...

Worm gear clamps can throw off balance. I reused stock one in same location. End nippers to put it back on.

Lions Den has the best deals on lube by the way.

Took the whole damn thing out and it still binds up, that plastic coating is the bad guy I think 🤔, thats definitely the story I told the wifey when the credit card dinged her phone for $740.00...
Im mad and glad at the same time as maybe I'll finally lose that slight vibration from the carrier bearing, it wasn't bad, but ... I'm down at least a week though, and I blame all this on Duke getting me to test out his pex pliers on those damn clamps to see if he could save a nickel...
And damn those flange bolts, they fight to the very end 😳! I think Tom Woods is near Canada so maybe Duke can just swing by on his way down to help me fix this/his mess ...
