No need to change out your current coilovers. The 6112 Bilstein have 600 lb
spings and will support the weight of most
bumper and winch combos....The 5160 are a firm digressive shock , that will work best with a softer progressive spring pack.
The swap in of the ICON extra leaf is good for up to 700 lbs constant weight. You will not lose load capacity but the added lift of the spring ,(1.5") will compress the first 1"
earlier in the cycle....the OME leaf pack with the digressive shocks will be a little rougher on the street...
.
I spoke with Bilstein a while back(at least 2 years ago) about the 6112 and they stated that they highly recommend different springs that are not included with the shocks(and not available through them) if you want a Bumper and Winch add on up front.

Also when it comes to shocks and springs it is always best to match brands so you have best comfort and control.

As for the constant load for the Icon Leafs, is that with the loss of 1 inch of height? I ask because Icon Advertised it as max 600

It"s been almost 3 years since I was shopping for 2.5 coilovers. The 6112 Bilstein's were only available complete , with top hats and 600lb springs assembled..I went with the Extended travel ICON's /650lb springs...as for the rear ICON Leaf pack...they added an initial 1.5" lift height in the as shipped, option #1.
6 spring configuration. In my quest to get them to settle to the 3/8" advertised lift, I rode around with 360 lbs of sand bags for 6mos..they never did..dealt with extra rake by adjusting my front coilovers preload up another 1/2" to the 3.0" they're at now...I was basing the height of the ICONS and how much they would compress under the added weight of a topper..just guessing..

This is all much appreciated info, it all helps me come to a decision and focus on the needed vs wanted. One thing that comes around is the added weight of an arb front bumper and winch, most of this swims around compensating this fact. It half turns me towards a lighter bumper but I do appreciate the tested arb and looks.

Cool truck. Yes I am thinking of coastal Offroad’s rear bumper, how do you like it? They are local for me so would be pretty straightforward. It seems like you had icon leafs and switched to OME? If so, How come? Why did you go with the ARB front bumper and not the coastal off-road front bumper? was there any loss in approach angle because the arb sticks out a bit?
I love the Coastal rear bumper. The Icons were great but were unable to handle the weight I carry with my bedrack/tent. The OME springs are a higher spring rate. They ride great and handle the weight a lot better.

I don't know how to weld and didn't have someone who could weld the front bumper for me. Plus, I really like the style of the ARB. I've had a lot of trucks and always wanted one. I don't know about approach angle, but the weight of the bumper and winch is why I went with the 1" strut spacers.

Why do you have strut spacers when you can simply get the correct strut and spring and create a better ride?

Thanks for the reply, I think that the added clearance from the coastal rear bumper is a great value and it looks great too!

Check out my build linked in my signature below.

I have basically what you are looking to accomplish. The OME 2.2" medium duty springs help with the weight in the back. I have OME Nitrocharger HD shocks up front and SD shocks in the rear. The OME are good because they have 600 lb springs. I also have 1" strut spacers on the front so that I have a nice, level ride. I have the ARB bumper up front and the Coastal Offroad in the rear. If you have issues hanging up the rear end, the high clearance Coastal is the way to go. I haven't touched it yet and I have done some large drop offs.
When it comes to overland builds with all the extra RTT , Racks Support gear and Bumpers, Colo_Ranger is probably the most experienced member on this site ,
I would place far more faith in his builds ,
My build and driving experience is more in the open desert Pre-Runner world ....

cool, the sense I am getting is exactly that, icon leans more towards for desert pre runner stuff where as OME leans towards more overland builds. My use leans towards overland mild rock crawler, although I would like to keep it light whenever possible.

I hope to do some final additions this spring so thanks for the advice!

I have the OME HD struts with the 600 lb springs and the front definitely dipped under the weight of the bumper. The strut spacer put the height back where it should be. I still get the ride I want and the height I want. OME actually offers strut spacers for exactly this reason. Their strut spacers are 5mm which would five you 10mm additional height, these are just a bit taller. Your condescension has been noted.

I appreciate the praise. I do like to search for perfection and change out parts until I get it...

That's what I do. Camping, trails, rocks, (I hate the term overland because its become super instagram cliche, but... that's the easiest way to describe it.). The Icons worked great for awhile, but I added the Decked, 12" RCI rack, and the tent and they Icons just couldn't keep up with the weight of the truck. Even in configuration 3.

Hello,

I am looking for some advice on how to finish my 2020 ford ranger build?

Use:
daily driver - weekend warrior, I do encounter mid level rock crawling trails. I don’t encounter high speed desert whoops, but like to cruise logging roads with no worries and clear rocks

Current setup:
Suspension
- Bilstein 6112 with 5160 remotes in the rear. 2.5 - 3” of lift. I Like the performance and ride quality.

Coastal off-road rock sliders.

Tires, pro comp xtreme mt2 285/70/17. too aggressive for on road comfort during long trips. Great off-road.

wheels: pro comp 69 series vintage, flat black, 17x9 -6 offset, backspacing = 4.75

Needs/ limitations - currently I am hitting the truck bed behind the rear tires.

Wants - eventually a winch, maintain / more clearance, more body protection. Possibly fitting 34” tires, I don’t mind trimming a bit

Thoughts:
Arb front and back bumpers, concern is weight with current suspension.

What would you recommend to help complete my build? I need to either protect or clear the rear of the truck over obstacles and would like to add a winch, maybe make it easier to squeeze 34” tires, thinking upper control arms and front bumper with clearance.

SPRINGS
I would definitely do the rear leafs first the oem ones from ford kinda suck unless you get tremor springs. Icon OME Dobinsons all seem like solid options I would go legit pack over AAL. I didn’t and paid twice. I have the deaver great option if they still make them but definitely a premium option the difference in ride quality is insane and immediately noticeable.

BUMPERS
Totally recommend a winch its fun and saves my dumbass all the time. If you care about safety ARB is unbeatable if you care about weight/price look at something else I have a coastal. AS FOR THE REAR I was going to get a rear bumper but the weight aspect sucks if you do go this route now get the bumper first figure out the weight Then do the springs. BUT! For me I’ve hit the rear a couple times doesn’t bother me and its only visible under the truck if you go with a high clearance where you have to cut anyway id beat up your factory bumper then do it. But I still wouldn’t do it.

+1 on UCA. I have Icons and they make a big difference.

Tires, perhaps take a look at Cooper Discovery RuggedTreks. They are are a hybrid AT/MT that are pretty quiet and handle well on pavement for an aggressive tire.

I totally agree, rear leafs springs will be a definite. Also solid advice to add the bumpers / weight first and then do the springs.

do you have a pict of the coastal front bumper? How do you like it, does the adaptive cruise etc work with it?

solid advice, I think UCA’s will be part of my upgrades this spring. I was thinking about hybrid tires, are they branding them at RT’s “rough terrain”?
