How long for sync navigation map updates from USB?

I have only done it once. It might have taken 30 minutes. I have a lariat there is a setting in the left display that is something like "auto shut down." I was letting it run and update while washing it. Every time I checked it was still in progress. After a while the car shut off. When I started it again it was done. I think the auto shut is 30 minutes.

I updated mine via USB a few weeks ago and it only took maybe 15 minutes. Problem is, the maps are STILL wrong. The bridge I use to cross the Mississippi several times a week was replaced a couple years ago. the aprons were all changed along with the access points, exit numbers, etc. The maps in Sync still show the old routing. Every time I cross the river it looks like I'm on a boat out in the water and then driving around where there aren't any known roads. I chatted with Ford yesterday on this and they gave me a link to report the changes to so I will give that a try.

You report the changes and they will maybe show up in an update next year.

this is typical, it takes literally years for changes to make it to the truck's nav

I bought the update Map files v2.23.. Tried to install it exactly as outlined in the PDFs.
I never saw but one screen. After 90 minutes with truck running, I shut it down and removed the USB stick.
Went to update screen shows map version 2,23??

Hate to say it, but my Garmin is heads above any internal auto solution that I have used. Life time updates that are fast, far more accurate, and it only cost me $99 10 years ago. Replacements are well under $200. I have the builtin units in several cars (not my Ranger) including my 2023 CX-5. I won't buy the built in stuff any longer. Even an old $100 Chinese android head unit in my 2005 Ranger has better Nav unit in it.

I like the convenience of built in, but they just are not on par with garmin yet. Google is very good, but tracks your every move.

Wow they released early - NA 2.23, usually they release in Aug. I guess I will have to update it.
I do keep my Garmin Updated as well, Great little unit (Lifetime Maps-Updates)

I never really tried Google Maps or any other Maps via Iphone either.

I actually only use Navigation on rare occasions anyway when venturing off the normal routes, so the onboard Nav is just fine for that, I keep the Garmin in the Glove Box for the occasional driving road trips for a broken aircraft at a nearby airport in the company trucks.

The Garmin is the best at finding stores, etc. Far superior to my car based nav units Cloud based is probably better, but I steer clear of them due to tracking/privacy concerns.

Yep, just finished the maps 2.23 update... on FordPass 5.0; Sync 3.4.23188; and maps 2.22, now 2.23 Took about 35 to 40 minutes via USB. Half way through it kinda scared me when it rebooted and the screen showed Sync 3.3 and the screen icons and such were the old 3.3 type. After a couple more reboots and processing all was back to normal with the new maps. Had to re-pair the BT to the Android phone but other then that all went well.

Guess you have to have a full tank of gas!
I wonder if you turned most of the accessories off then used a battery charger to allow KeyOn to install would work?

I think the answer is yes. As my ASS had stopped working (I assumed do to my short drives such that the alternator could not charge up the batter sufficiently), I put my NOCO charger on to give it a fill charge (at least as much as the BMS would allow... mine is at stock setting) and figured would be a good time to do the update without having to drive around. Worked great in KeyOn mode.
Not sure if it was any quicker than driving around but as I mentioned above, 35 to 40 minutes to complete.

2019 Ranger here.
Paid 5 year subscription, plus $40 usb shipped to me.
And, yes, it took about 2 1/2 hours!
I don't remember it EVER taking that long!
Very, very poor programming!
You don't load the entire map for an update, you just upload the changes since my last version.
Oh well, I guess I'm good.
Everything seems happy.
