For those in salted-road areas, understand that commercial car washes recycle a large portion of their water. They do run it through sediment filters (they should, at least) but that doesn’t remove dissolved salt. So, you have water with some salt content being applied under pressure to the undercarriage, which can penetrate farther than road-spray and seepage. I have used Fluid Film and New Hampshire Oil Undercoating, and both were effective. NH Oil Undercoating specifically recommends to avoid the undercarriage spray at the car wash.
