Anyone see this hood scoop available anywhere? This is on a Southern Comfort conversion. Looks like it's even functional. Just wonder how the install goes.

Looks interesting. He called it a hood vent @3 minute mark to let heat or air out of the engine bay. I bet it is great for vacating hot engine bay air. When you say hood scoop are you talking about a fresh air intake for the engine? That is what comes to mind for me when I hear the term hood scoop.

I wonder how the hot air coming out will affect the defog ability in the center part of the windshield. I took the weather stripping out of a car I used to have to allow the engine bay air to freely flow out where the hood meets the windshield. It was a turbo car and the engine bay could get really warm. Removing the rubber seal created a nice 1" or so gap between hood and windshield which kept the engine bay noticeably cooler. Hood would be cooler to the touch after driving and I would not get hit with such a blast of heat when opening the hood. Idling you could feel the engine bay heat leaving the hood gap and rolling up the base of the windshield. Granted, this hood vent is further from the windshield then the vent I created.

The downside was It really messed with my defogger on damp days. Had to put the seal back it got so bad at times. It was difficult to defog the windshield even with the fans on high. As soon as you turned the fan down or swapped to a setting other than defog the windshield would immediately fog back up again. Plus the cabin air intake was also sucking in hot engine bay heated air. That experiment did not last very long. Live and learn.

I personally trust that the engineers did their due diligence in designing these truck (Except rear seat back latch and under set latch). so I will not be cutting holes in my truck.

This is the first Ford I've had that has so much sealing between the hood and engine compartment. It seems that Ford wanted that sealed for a reason (airflow and/or noise). No holes here either.....:)

I am amaze at the stuff that is offered for Rangers. I do not think this "look" is attractive...however if you wish it..go for it...Just remember that all the thermodynamic evaluations of the stock package are gone and you pay the consequences of robbing the battery of co0ling..and so forth... A questionable "improvement" if there was ever was. Where is the data before and after this modification... I doubt this data exists so cut away your hood...looks cool to some..not me...Good luck on this "improvement"

Best.

I looked at an SCA Black Widow custom Ranger before I got my Lariet. Took a good look at the hood vent and how it was installed. It is a functional vent as they cut the hood and install it plus a new heat shield. It was actually impressive.

I contacted SCA and they told me it is a part of the black widow kit that is not for sale individually. That was about a month ago.
If anyone is able to convince them to sell it individually, please let me know!

Aero can be tricky. Even Ford doesn't always get the aerodynamics right. My 2001 Mustang GT convertible had a fake hood scoop. Around 70 mph or above that hood would flex vertically. The up and down shaking was visually discomforting.

This scoop was definitely installed where it was not coming out. It had another piece that conneced with the underside of the hood and a new heat shield. It really looked OEM. Plus, it was covered under warranty.

I like the look of the vent! Can’t seem to find anyone who pulled the trigger though.

Mine does that now!!
Like NASCAR!!!
Always thought it kind of cool but very questionable about longevity? That much movement its bound to rip sometime down the line.

I remember those doing that! a friend of mine had a mustang gt coupe same year. i never understood the logic behind the fake scoop on the hood, body sides and front end.

I don’t mind big holes in a hood.
