If I were in that situation I'd gladly pay for some protection. At least on a lot they are periodically hosed off.Doug, I was just talking to my friend back east about this earlier today. His (well it's his wife's) Bronco finally has a build date of 5/26 and he's afraid it's going to end up sitting for months after waiting for chips. He said he'd even pay to have it covered so it's not sitting there in the elements for months. I know most do sit like this on dealers lots but when it's a brand new customer order this shouldn't be happening.
As far as the model years I'm guessing if you have a '21 and get it in '22 you're just happy to get it. Sucks it's a year old now but at least it was price protected and there was no increase.
I've bought some outging model year new vehicles before, never bothered me. But trying to be happy about picking up a "new" '21 in September of '22 while paying (often times nowadays) more than MSRP would be tough for me.
