It seems GM statement any time they have a problem is "It's with in acceptable limits"
Dealers stock what sells. If there was a big demand for bare bones XLs on the lot they would stock them. Most of those $24,300 XLs are going to GSA or commercial fleets. The same is true with F150 XLs although you do find quite a few XL STX packaged F150s on the lots. The fact is once the buyers see the nice trim, infotainment system, nice wheels, etc. that’s what they want. If you really want a basic no options XL any dealer will order you one. Very few people are ordering them for personal use.GM lineup is not a threat to the 2019 Ford Ranger. Ford, is a threat to itself with its F-150 competing with the Ford Ranger. Next time, when you are at a Ford dealership observe how many XL trim models the dealer has on the lot. I will give you a hint - zero. The reason, I was told, at MSRP of $24,300 for the basic plain Jane XL trim model, it could easily erode the fat profits the F-150 provides for Ford Motor Company.
Good advice. I'm a Ford fan, but not fanatic. I've had very good luck with Ford products for the last 20+ years, but if I didn't like what they were building when I was looking for a new vehicle, I wouldn't have a problem buying something that worked better for me. So far, they have satisfied my needs well and I've not had significant issues with any of our vehicles. But I don't replace vehicles every 3 years anymore - last Ranger I had for 14 years, last Explorer we had for over 10.
The problem goes back way longer than four years! My 2005 Colorado was lemon-lawned after 8 months because of the transmission. I was at the dealer every month because of the transmission. The service manage finally told me there was nothing wrong with the transmission and go to another dealer after the six months of trying to fix the transmission misshifts and terrible clucking they said couldn't be replicate. Two days later the transmission blew up second and third gears gushing out all the transmission fluid on a busy interstate. Within the month the state of Texas ordered GM to buy the vehicle back. That ended my Chevy experiment and came back to Ford. Won’t ever go back to a GM product.
a few years? I'm thinking Ranger out sells BOTH GM trucks combined at the end of 2020.
If they want to outsell them, I think they will need to at least add another shift (or two) to the existing one. They currently don't make enough to outsell them. do they? They are running 10 hour shifts 6 days a week as I recall, and they are doing approximately 500 a day - that is 12,000 a month. Aren't the GM twins sales higher than that?
They will go to two shifts once the Bronco comes on-line.
But won't that be just for Bronco production? Or are they going to build Rangers and Broncos at the same time? I know they sit on the same platform - or will. One shift produces Rangers and the next shift produces Broncos?
Supposedly some of the limitations are in areas that will be shared with bronco production, so they won't put the money into expanding those until they're ready to add the bronco tooling. There will be separate lines, but some things (e.g., paint? post-build addons like bedliners or running boards?) will be shared.
