The truck uses a simple fuel level gauge for the reading. If under warranty I recommend taking it into the dealer to have it looked at. Chances are it's a faulty sender. It's not common on these truck but still possible to go bad
it’s kind of strange. It reminds me of an old float gauge because it only happens when it’s cold almost like something is sticking a little.

The Ranger does use a float for fuel level in the tank,

So maybe someone can clue me in on the fuel gauge readings and the Miles to Empty.
So I have a little over 1200 miles on the truck. I have filled it up 4 times.
Each time I fill it up I get different Miles to Empty. The most I have gotten is 402. Yesterday I was coming home and I got the warning about
50 miles to empty. The tank holds supposedly 18.7 gallons. I fill it up and I just barely get 16 gallons in it (at 41 miles to empty.)
I look at the Miles to Empty after fill up and its 336. So I figured I would refill it again this morning thinking I didnt top it all the way up.. I was able to put about .5 gallons in it and I kept trying to get more in and
could not. By the way all the views of the gas gauges show full.
So am I going to need to put a postit note on the dash with the mileage at the time of fill up?
Its frustrating because the 2019 was flawless.

Reset the Avg MPG each time you fill up. The Miles To Empty is calculated by the fuel in the tank vs. the Avg MPG.
The Ranger is like every other new Ford I've owned, the mpg got better after about 10,000 miles and a couple of oil changes.

Since I got it I have gotten 24.1 MPG high to 18.9 yesterday. The thing is how much gas do I actually have in the tank? Do I really only have 50 to go before I am out? Seems like the 2019 was more dependable.

Both my 2019 & 2023 act exactly the same. The MTE light always comes on at 50 and the MTE readout is based off your last fill up. Now I've had mine read 438 and as low as 360 after filling up but again that's only based on your past driving. It will correct itself as you drive and that number will go up/down depending on if you're doing a lot of city driving or highway driving. I'm doing a lot more short trips (2-4 miles) and now that is cold out here and I'm letting mine warm up and idle more mine is reading around 370 MTE when filled up. Normally mine averages 408 MTE.

You can add the Fuelly app and that will help you see every fill up and the average.

Drove mine with 7miles left to gas station, 18 gallon fill!
If one really needs to know how accurate the DTE reading is, conduct the old run the tank dry test, but best to be carrying 5 gal can.

My truck has never been below 1/4 of a tank and that was when I ran some fuel system cleaner in the gas, otherwise I never let it go below 1/2 a tank. Why would you even want to push it lower?
Same here, run on the top half of the tank, like my dad taught me.

Mind you, I rarely go more than a few miles (1.6 miles to the dump, 2.9 miles to the office twice a week).

And I always carry a bit over 2 gallons of gas in a 10 liter Wavian can.

I've never run out of gas and hope I never do (62 years old). =)
