Ford Performance Tune

Anyone here concerned with rising gas prices and having to use 93 with the tune?

I run premium in all the turbo cars I've owned - A3, Civic Si, TourX, and this Ranger - but 93 isn't commonly available in CO or NM... 91 is premium octane here.
Is 93 a requirement for the Ford Performance tune, or just the premium grade that exists in your market?

As long as you are using premium fuel(91 and up) then you are fine

93 is available, but premium is required for FP Tune. Premium is about $3.30 per gallon now. And shows no signs of stopping

That’s where you would be wrong ? I’ve built turbo setups and race cars for YEARS. I want to know what specifically was done to the tune to make it “tow friendly” not speculation.

Here’s my “not knowing about tuning” built both of these cars:

The Mitsubishi Evo when I was 22, the GMC Sierra when I was 26.

Fully built 67mm turbo Evo made 890awhp @ 48psi on VP C16 600whp @ 31psi on 93 oct.

SBE 5.3 LS, full time AWD, 4l80E, 1ton front differential, 76mm turbo 760awhp turning 35s @ 14lbs on E85

Sorry to go off-topic but these are both awesome! Evo looks amazing on the hoosier slicks!

Dumb question, but I'm still deciding between the FP tune or the Livernois tuner, would some minor bolt ons like exhaust and an air filter have any benefit with the FP tune? I know some of the tuners will update your tune to reflect certain additions. Sorry for newbie question!

Going to Costco or Sam's Club helps take the sting out of the rising prices. One good thing about the Livernois tune is you get their 87-89 tune so you can flash back to that if prices climb to high. Sure the turbo runs better with premium but it's nice to have options and still be able to run a tune.

I already have the Ford Performance tune, however if it degrades performance updating it. Well then I won't be updating my tune.

I updated the Ford Performances tune on mine, if anything it feels even better at low to mid-range. I wouldn’t hesitate to update. I feel like the transmission shifting is better also. Since the file supplied says Livernois on it and the CARB documentation for Ford also says Livernois I would assume it’s one of their tunes. Anyway, runs great.

I plugged in the ProCal and it said my shortcut was not longer valid. I logged into: www.performanceparts.ford.com/register
and clicked on the ProCal header. i Think there was blue lettering on the right side I clicked and it downloaded the file. After that I downloaded the new software to the truck. I more or less stumbled across it.
Maybe somebody can try theirs and screen print the process.

I found out that it’s due to AdvanceTrak that I messed with in FORScan. It has nothing to do with Livernois. They contacted me yesterday and offered to help trouble shoot but I figured it out and corrected my mistake thru FORScan. I love my Livernois tune and their customer service is top notch.

Actually the Pro Cal 4 programmer does quite a few things that are not even advertised by Ford or Ford Performance.

I want to upgrade but want to make sure I have the updated version. I used the pro cal app on a pc and ‘updated” it. I called FPP to verify and The tech didn’t know what version was the newest and or the best way to update.

Any recommendations. The rep said there is a debate about restoring to stock first and then applying the update. Also because I had it dealer installed he recommended having the dealer do the revert and apply the new tune. He couldn’t validate the warranty policy. I know my vin is registered for the fpp warrenty. Every time we revert to stock or update do we need ford to do it to keep factory?

I just updated to the new Performance software, I did not go back to stock and then to the new software.
