I just read through this entire subject, a common thread is difficulty and/or over charging by the dealer. The FP tunes does not need to be installed by the dealer to get the warranty, just needs to be installed by an ASE certified tech. If you don't know a tech take the car to a performance shop. They do this kind of thing all day long and will know what it takes. They will also have lower hourly labor rates.

I did the FP tune on my 17 Ecoboost Mustang myself. My son is an ASE certified tech and manages a service center. He generated a receipt for one hour of labor and I made a copy of his ASE certificate. I emailed the purchase receipt from Levington, his receipt and the copy of his ASE certificate to the email address listed in the FP warranty document to FP. I had confirmation that the warranty was registered to my vin in about two hours.

Retired, work is a four letter word.
I don't know why it has to be installed by either a Dealer or certified ASE Tech? It is just a software install other than changing the air filter, not brain surgery, has to be one of the simplest mods to do. I mean you're using a Ford certified Tuner to install a Ford certified Tune.

Well there is some financial motivation implying that the dealer needs to install it.

Also, not sure when ProCal 4 came out but when I did the FP tune on my 17 Ecoboost Mustang it was ProCal 3.

The ProCal 3 device was just an OBD dongle and it required you have a laptop in your car and a WiFi connection to do the install. The ProCal 3 software was not user friendly and it was easy to mess up the install requiring a tow to the dealer and a reflash of the ECU. Could be the requirement is left over from those days.

So with the Ford Performance tune, IF you guys are driving normal, are you guys getting better MPG too?
I would love to cruise and get better mpg when I’m being easy on it, but when I smash it, have more power instantly. Is that at all possible?

I just ordered a 2021 Ranger Lariat Tremor. I want it tuned so I can get additional power and torque.

I’m new to the forum and I’ve done a little searching. I’m hoping someone here can tell me what’s the best route to go.

I’ve already purchased the AWE exhaust system and AIRAID intake. Is the best bet to go with the Ford Performance tuner or should I look into 5Star or any others?? What are the HP and Torq gains on the Ford Tune?

If you're looking to retain the factory warranty it's a good idea to go with the FPT. You'll get a noticeable increase in hp/tq but not as much as you would with an aftermarket tune.

I have the Livernois tune and with that you get all 5 of their tunes to try out and free lifetime updates. What's nice is if/when gas gets expensive you can just flash back to the 87-89 tunes and still have more performance than stock. With the FPT you're stuck using premium. We only have 91 out here and I've been running the 91-93 soft shift tune and love it. They claim 80 more hp and 100 tq using 93 octane. There are a bunch if threads with a tone of info from all us using this tune here and here.

Livernois vs 5star here.

Oh Dave. Didn’t know in AZ there’s only 91 too at most stations. Can you find 93 if you looked hard enough? There’s a station that will sell 100 octane racing fuel but I am not paying $11 per gallon. Livernois says with 91 you lose about 12-15 hp. So still 60ish, 15 more than FP. And still safe.

AFAIK most of the west coast doesn't have 93 which is strange! When I first moved out here I noticed this right away and have read others talk about it. Even when we were up in UT & CO I didn't see it anywhere in the areas we were in. Maybe it's available in some of the larger cities but everywhere I've ever got gas I'v never seen anything higher than 91.

We use to mix VP racing fuel back east in our street bikes but no way I'm using that at $11.00/gal.

Excellent info!! I think the FPT will be the way I go to start because I would like to retain the factory warranty. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on Stage3Motorsports. I’m racking up some rewards point lol

Weird, I wonder why that is... Time to go down the google rabbit hole.

VP racing fuel, that's the station near me.. Hah. Way too expensive indeed.

Gasoline is a commodity, the same refineries supply gas for every brand in the geographic area they support. So if the refinery(s) are set up to refine 91 that is all you get. Gasoline only takes on the characteristics of a particular brand as it is loaded on the tanker truck when the additive package is blended in.

$11.00/gal. - send me a tanker load - I’m pretty sure I pay close to that for 87 here in Toronto. ?

I do realize that but it seems kind of odd there's not one that produces 93 out here. If there are stations I've never seen them in my travels. I read somewhere the there's no 93 west of the Rockys, not sure if that's true or not but it sounds kind of dumb to me. if it's on the internet it must be true. lol

Here 92 is the top grade. I've always wondered why that's the case...just not enough to look into it ?‍♂
