So I purchased an Eaton e locker from 4 wheels parts for my non locker ranger. Looking into options to use the stock controls, if I can source them. Is this doable? Will I be able to program it like a oem unit? Would like to avoid cutting into the dash if possible. I know this may be a long shot but worth exploring.

No I'm not installing it! I'm no mechanic at all! I'm just looking into what I would need to get it so it uses stock electrical.

Of course you will need to buy the proper console switch that has the locker button. If you are very lucky some wiring is already there but probably not.

No doubt the big issue is the wiring. If the harness is universal to both eLocker and standard diffs, then it likely is a button added to the console, some wire connections and some software changes.

If copper was free, I would say you had a really good chance the wires are there... ;)

It could get complicated. The OEM rear locker automatically disengages above 25mph and reengages below 25 when in the On position. I believe this feature is controlled by a chip somewhere rather than centrifugal. This might mean that if you wired the front locker to the OEM locker switch, the chip might say WTF? and engage neither or only the rear, or fail to disengage the added front at 25mph.
Separate switch and relay is probably best.

Good point.

But I will add that according to the light on the dash the locker will not disengage at 25 mph if your foot is all the way in it. Once you ease off the throttle above 25 mph it disengages.

My truck actually has no locker at all. I'm adding an aftermarket rearone. I won't have a front unit.

I agree though, it's looking like I may just have to go with a new switch.

What part number did you purchase, and did 4 Wheel Parts advise you on which one to get? I'm assuming it's # 14234-1 or # 19977-010.

They did not advise though, I had to research it

Cool, thank you. I did some mild research a while back and wasn't positive on the spline count of non-locker Rangers and was too lazy to count my own. Keep us posted on the progress! I'm going to follow this thread.

When I see a post like this, I'm glad I dropped the extra $420 for the locker option. Just like the tow package, it is a very good deal. I'm wondering what the part plus install costs.

Yea I only had so many to pick from though, wasn't on my radar then either. $1200 for the locker, $800 for the install. Kinda sucks, but is what it is. Still cheaper than getting a new fx4, around here anyway.
