Waking this thread, because it's my turn to deal with my window moldings.

Those of you that have refinished your window trim. How's it holding up? And what method did you use?
I have cerakote wipes and my plan was to use Magic Eraser with some dawn to clean the trim, and then seal it with the cerakote.

So lets hear it :)

Is your truck tuned? Did you check and change your oil regularly? Any mods? What did the dealer say? Have you lodged this with Ford Customer Care? Original owner? Service records? ;)

I have not had to clean mine, just been keeping a coat of wax on them between the 303 and Meg Ceramic, I actually need to do another coat, this summer has been brutal for the heat - mainly humidity

My truck stays outside, at first 303 and some other graphene products kept the grey away. But have noticed its turning quicker as the truck ages, and spreading across the trim more. Hoping for longer term solution

magic eraser and tire cleaner took the milkyness off mine
along with judicious amounts of elbow grease and whale oil 😉

I really would hesitate to use something abrasive like Magic Eraser on my window rubber trim:

—--------—----------------------------------

AI Overview

Yes, the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is abrasive. It's made of a melamine foam, which is a fine abrasive material that works by penetrating and lifting grime and dirt. Because of its abrasiveness, it can be effective for cleaning tough messes, but it can also potentially scratch or dull surfaces if used improperly according to cleaning and home care websites.

—-----------------------------------------------

Abrading the "skin" on the rubber can reduce the shine.

I have been using Carpro Perl successfully for quite a while.

I had an old bottle of Back to Black. With some elbow grease it improved it some.

I’m reading good things about Solution Finish Trim Restorer in the reviews from a few car detailing product retailers. Might be worth researching. Maybe some folks on here have used it?

Oh, and don’t tell Dave - he knows where I live.

removing the infected material was intended
Engineer here working with plastics and polymers. Molded parts have a smooth surface created by the metal mold surfaces.

The surface smoothness is measured as Ra values, translating to microns of the average roughness.

Broaching this “skin” increases this Ra value. You can get the blackness to be blacker, but to have a shine the surface should be smooth.

Just saying!

Enjoy !

Interesting, I think I would rather have rougher black than smooth white.

What used to be black trim around the windows has now turned grey, almost white. I bought some "special" treatment to restore the black color and it did nothing. Any idea on how to bring the black back?
