I went from a 2005 Ranger to a 2011 F150 and then a 2015 F150. They were both great trucks, had no problems with either one of them but wanted to down size to a 2020 Ranger supercab FX4. I was leery of the 10 speed transmission but it has been flawless as well as the 2.3 engine. I average around 23 mpg around town, have gotten up to 30 mpg on long road trips. Happy with my Ranger so far
Very similar, I went from an 04 Ranger FX4 to a 13 F-150 5.0, to a 97 Lariat (still have, very low miles), and now my 19 f150 xl FX4 5.0... it is a disaster.

My 2011 F150 had the 3.5 ecoboost engine, I didn't really do much towing with it, gas mileage was not what they advertised. The 2015 F150 had the 2.7 ecoboost and gas mileage was good and it was peppy and fun to drive.

I love the 5.0 very much, I'm not sure if I can happily switch to the 2.3

If you haven't driven the 2.3, you should drive one before you decide. I'm consistently blown away by what this little tiny motor coupled to the 10 speed can do.

All my F 150's were a 5.0 and I thought the same when I found out the Ranger was a 2.3 4cyl. I've never owned a 4cyl, my first car was a '70 Challenger with a 383. lol

I was super impressed when I first test drove a Ranger and on my second test drive I bought it on the spot. I have zero regrets as this truck is surprisingly fast and the drivetrain is smooth as glass. Add a tune and you will forget all about that 5.0. ;)

I can wait to get mine but I really can't wait to see and test drive one. Bad part is all the first runs are going for customer reservations. IIRC the dealers get theirs after but I'm sure some larger dealers might get some.

I hope some of the dealers get that one or two for their personal use and for public testing :like:

the 10 speed had been very problematic on the f-150, pending class action lawsuit because ford has no fix. my dash is falling apart. My best friend has a 2019 and is on his 4th dashboard. My transmission bangs clanks, jolts and jerks... and my windows go down when ever they please haha. 15,365 miles... im worried.
The 10sp was perfect in my 2018 F150. I traded it in because I didn’t need that size truck. I have a Lariat FX4 Ranger now and it is nice, and goes places my F150 wouldn’t, and has the same transmission. Mustang has the same transmission too. There’s no pending class action suit on the transmission either. Chevy codeveloped and uses the same transmission too. Maybe you should buy a Dodge instead.

GM couldn't find the 10th gear so they're stuck with 9 speed... ?

That bang and clink noise was the gear falling apart on the shaft and gm thought they were getting a steal on 9 speed trannys from the backdoor of the Ford tranny jobber

My 2020 long bed Ranger has been a joy so far, runs fast and strong up 7% grade pulling a 2k lb. trailer at 75 wanting to go faster. My FX4 with 18 inch black out rims seems to have been hurt on gas mileage,(18mpg) as it is reported that the 18 inch wheels and tire combo used 32 psi. where the 17 inch set needs 38 seems like a big difference. Wondering if my mileage is hurt by the tire pressure or my justifiable inability to stay out of the throttle?
3K miles and near perfect.
I did however look under the truck and discovered what appears to be a 12-15 pin cable on transmission that made me a bit nervous so I bought the Ford warranty for 8 year (5 year extension) 100k miles for $2500.

Have just passed a year and 12,000 miles. Nearly 6,000 of those miles were towing our 6,000 lbs trailer. No notable mechanical issues to date. (knocking on wood) Average around 20 mpg town & highway. (w/o trailer)

The little 4-banger and 10-speed took a while to get used to, but after a year I've come to be quite impressed with how it functions. The real question is going to be longevity. But one year in, I'm still pleased.
