I'd challenge that and offer that covers are more for the ladies/girly men....making it look less intimidating when they check the oil. if you win at that game, they actually might check the oil when they add washer fluid.
esthetics far outweigh any benefit/loss for noise, heat and contaminants.

I started crocheting one for mine.

I put one on also as soon as I could get it. to me it just looked stupid without it - so now ford is adding it to prevent damage..... I also added the skid plate to the front, if you look the steering motor is right there - very open to damage from random road crap flying up and hitting it, I know its not likely but a $25 part to protect a thousand dollar part seems like a good bet.

I have the XLT Crew regular 4x4, so it didn't come with a skid plate. Would a skid plate have protected my serpentine belt? I had a thread about my Ranger with 1600 miles leaving me sitting on the side of the road for 4 hours.... when it finally got to the Ford dealer, they said there was a small chunk out of the edge of the serpentine belt. They thought it was probably due to a rock hitting it and not rodent damage.

2021 Ranger vehicles with Lariat trim level are no longer equipped with an engine appearance cover. The vehicle is not misbuilt and a claim should not be submitted for this condition unless directed to do so by another service publication.

All 4x4 models are supposed to come with a skid plate. The non-FX4 is just black and a little smaller.

The FX4 plate is a little wider, but yours still should have been enough. Reality though is that things like that happen. It's just dumb luck.

It did. It absorbs ticking noise eminating from the HPFP.
