Looking to install a cold air intake. Any opinions/thoughts on the ‘best’ option?
Thanks!

Most agree that the intake is pretty darn good as is. Just use a good aftermarket high flow air filter that is oil free such a AEM if you want the best value for your money. You might eke out a few horse power with a CAI, but they do more for looks than anything else if that is what you are after.

Roush looks good.
Just wish it did not have the flex pipe.
For some reason they are not t as nice as they look.
Work fine but maybe it's just me.
Carbon fiber with flex connectors would be nice. Carbon is also never hot to touch after running. Add the red thing also.

No , unless it’s tuned to the Intake ..
“Cold air intakes can result in actual gains in power, but not necessarily in the way most people are expecting them. The key that is typically missing in the mind of the average consumer is that the only time power is increased is when the engine is at Wide Open Throttle (WOT)”

It has been dyno proven on certain intakes, but one thing to consider is where you live. If you are in a highly dusty area like Arizona or where younare in the Desert then i would suggest not going with anything but the factory filter. Why do you ask? More airflow will most likely result in dirt and dust getting by and wiping a cylinder or two out. This is something i have seen with my own eyes in Arizona from K&N air Filters.

If you spend money.
Tune first.
Intercooler upgrade but not needed as much. Hot areas maybe.
Down Pipe. Not needed but for higher power and more sound.
Vehicle is still a truck and not a sports car so a simple tune or piggy back module is the best money spent. So many other things on a truck to spend money on so tune only good. Other items mentioned for engine are better cosmetic changes.

If you want a cold air intake, buy it - but don't expect a noticeable gain (says the gain with all the Boomba aluminum bits). As said previously, for the most gain, get the tune, and if you get a new downpipe, get a tune for that. For more fun sound, get a cat back exhaust. For a little more noise, get a TurboSmart Dual-port BOV.

Who else has the Roush cold air intake setup? I just put mine in a couple of days ago and was wondering how often I should clean it and how to clean it. I’m honestly not sure if its oiled or dry

I’ve had this intake for 3 years now I clean it when I do an oil change or if it looks really dirty. Roush says you can’t clean it  I guess you just have to buy a new one every time. I use K&N recharge kit and it works fine just make sure you don’t use too much oil could cause damage to Mass air flow sensor. Also let air filter wick for a hour before reinstalling it. Hope this helps

Hey Anthony,

I have this CAI on my XLT. Clean it every oil change or when it appears dirty or if there is a lot of noticeable dust and debris on the filter or inside the air box.

Clean it with Simple Green or 409. Spray it inside and out. Rinse it with a hose from the inside of the cone, out so you push the contaminants out and not further into the filter.

You can also let it soak in a bucket of Simple Green and water for an hour or so while you change your oil, clean your truck, rotate your wheels, whatever.

Rinse in a bucket of clean water, then as above with a hose and reserve the solution to clean your wheels, engine bay, tools, bike, whatever.

Don’t forget to clean the inside of the air box while you’re at it.

Let it dry completely - overnight or longer if needed.

It is not meant to be oiled.

Cleaning Instructions from the Roush Help Center are not very detailed but are available here…

Good news is on the 5g Ranger there is no mass air flow sensor to dirty with oil from a cotton gauze filter.

I was considering the Roush cold air intake, but am I reading correctly that without reprogramming, it won’t make any difference at all?
