Mine is a daily, been running 5w50 for around 15k now (3-4 oil changes) and noticed a marked improvement in dilution and quality of the oil at the end of its cycle with zero negative effects. I’m quite hard on my truck and it makes considerably more power than stock, I see it as cheap insurance for my use. I don’t see any reason not to use it if he wants.
So you went from 5-30 to 5-50,15,000 miles and no catastrophic failure????
but you can’t do that,it’s not what Ford recommends?

You asked for opinions on if a particular oil weight was OK, and now your getting answers, some for and some against. Don't be surprised by some of the answers, like mine...heck, what do I know....I've only been changing my own oil in all my vehicle for the last 62 years.
Oil type/brand/weight/service is one of the most bashed around threads that it dosen't matter what we all say as you have most likely already made up your mind.
Personally I thing you should use whatever the heck you want to use...it's on you, not me.

I'm general you are not wrong. It was recent that I got a good lesson in Oil from Motul(French Oil Company) when it comes to choosing the right oil for a vehicle. I learned that it was.more.than just the Oil Weight that you wanted to look at. For Gasoline Engines there is an API rating that has changed over the years. Most modern vehicles(I think starting after 2019) are currently using SP. Older vehicles require something different as it has a bit more stuff for additives and what not.

Here is a chart that was given to me by Motul. Kinda interesting when you get down too it.

I don’t see a reason not to. I use Motorcraft 5w50. I have noticed much less fuel dilution and the oil still feels like oil at 5k instead of gritty gas water. I previously used Motorcraft 5w30 semi synthetic. I still try to change it around 4k but I have gone over that before.

Go for it! The BITOG cult loves 5w40, especially for keeping higher viscosity later through the OCI.

Since Ford recommends 5w50 for racing in the mustang and RS 2.3, don't hesitate and go 5w40 or 5w50. Worst case scenario your mpg goes down 0.1% from the thicker oil. More likely scenario it holds up better to wear and tear.

If nothing else absolutely do 5w30 full synthetic. The conventional and blended synthetic is absolutely not up to the task of the factory 10k mile OCI in the ranger with the 2.3 GTDI, as proven by UOAs. Average 5w30 full synthetic barely is. Top shelf 5w30 full synthetic is up to the task. Likely 5w40 and 5w50 too.

do you still not have much fuel dilution?
