My 2020 Ranger with 26 K mileage started bucking and now shows a check engine light. If I use the gear selector switch on the shifter and downshift to maintain rpms between 2500 and 3500, I can minimize the bucking. Initially, I thought the problem was in the tranny. However when I tried to make an appt with the dealer, I was told the dealer remotely looked at the truck and it shows a misfire. I was also told by the dealer that if it’s a transmission issue, they could look at it on Dec 26. If it’s a misfire, they can look at it on Nov 1st. Needless to say, I’m disappointed with the truck and service.
yesterday I drove it in the morning and it ran fine For the 1st and only time this month. However, an afternoon trip produced the bucking and acceleration problem. Anyone have any clue what’s going on with this issue?

Many on this thread have found that the EGR DPFE sensor (not to be confused with the EGR Valve) has caused the engine bucking. Many have replaced it themselves.

Part number - LB5Z-9J433-B
It costs about $30.

Yep, same symptoms as everyone else on my 2019 Lariat. Replaced DPFE sensor. The plastic rings that are on the clamps for the new sensor and hoses are the best thing I have ever seen to aid an install! This has resolved 90+% of my issue, but I am still having rough shifting when cold. Even this issue is better, but not totally resolved. Truck is headed to dealer for a couple of items (finally got an appointment) and I am having them do the TSB 19-2052 PCM reprogram while there. My truck is an early 2019 build and, to my knowledge, this has never been performed on my truck. I am owner #2. Like all of the commenters and lurkers, I am so thankful for this thread!
A follow-up. After having my dealer perform the TSB reflash of the PCM I can truly say that between the reflash and replacing this DPFE sensor my truck is totally different for the better! The transmission is very smooth, no more low speed bucking and overall the things like idle are improved and it even warms up a bit quicker in the mornings now. So, thanks to this thread as well as the one on the TSB for the early 2019 trucks, I finally have the truck that I wanted!

Anyone have any pictures of what this sensor looks like?

After taking truck in to Ford a few times over the "stuttering", which, of course, they can't duplicate, it has finally possibly been resolved as a torque converter problem. Getting it replaced in a week or two, and hopefully will resolve this nonsense. I had had enough of it yesterday and was going to call Ford again, when they called me today to tell me the back ordered converter finally came in. fingers crossed

Before getting the torque converter replaced, look into the EGR DPFE (pressure) sensor. It only costs about $30 and has solved several "torque converter" issues. It is easy to replace yourself. What happens is the engine misses (bucks) due to too much EGR gasses going to the engine because of a bad sensor. Some dealers diagnose the problem as a transmission problem rather than an engine problem.

Just something to consider, as there are several threads on this exact issue.

The fix for my 2020 Ranger bucking and shuddering and throwing codes P0301 and P0316 was;
1. Blow out the water in the spark plug well .
2. replace the plug.
3. clean boot.
4. order engine appearance cover to prevent moisture from getting into the wells.

Yeah, for some reason replacing major components is on the flow chart, but replacing the cheap part isn't. So most dealers won't even consider replacing the cheap part. I'd 100% try replacing the sensor on my own before letting a dealer rip into the drivetrain.

I replaced

LB5Z-9J433-B
Valve Exhaust Gas Recirculat

and it mostly resolved my problem (or so I thought), but now it has returned back to pretty much the way it was with the bucking and feeling like it's "missing' between 15-30 MPH, especially in the morning when it's not warmed up. Is the part above the valve or sensor, and is there another part I could / should have replaced. Sorry, I'm confused at this point, especially since the part above has not seemed to resolve my problem. I have a very early 2019 (purchased in Jan 2019) so maybe I just need the PCM reset?

That part number is the differential pressure sensor for the EGR system.

Hi Bob,

Do you mind sharing the part number or a link for the EGR DPFE pressure sensor you reference above?

Thank you

Thanks! I guess maybe I'm one of the "lucky ones" whose issue goes beyond this sensor. Or, I had a near immediate failure of my replacement of this craptastic part.
