truck ran worse today. problem more persistent. Got new plugs and a coil. Did the coil first and found it only had 2 of 3 mounting legs / lugs left. 1 forward 2 aft for that setup and it only had the rear bolts. so the coil was a free on the front end near the #1 and #6 cylinder spots. the coil looked to be the original. dirty, said motorcraft etc. Put the new coil on and went for a spin around the block and it ran great. Im hoping that was the cure? honestly I dont see that being the cause. I Thoughts?
I shall find out driving to work in the morning. if its not better im gonna check out the plugs and replace them with new the new ones. The dang injectors are pricey. im trying to avoid them if possible.

so i threw in a set of the pricey platinum plugs and new wires last night. the plugs and new wires with new coil has the truck running like a champ! im happy it is not injectors or cats or any of the expensive stuff.

Hi Mark,

There is a fuel filter on the frame rail that goes undetected as there are wiring looms around it and it can cause what you described as well. Pretty easy to change once you know where it is.

best,
Phil

Hi Phil...do you know where it is exactly? Since I'm over 100K, might be worth it for me to replace...

It would be on drivers side underneath the seat mounted on inside of frame rail. Need the fuel line compression tools to get it off. Oh and have a bucket handy! ?

now we need to worry about fuel filters too? this is too much worrying. I'm going Amish style horse and buggy
?

this is what happens when "engineers" spend more time on making tailgates slow down instead of real improvements ?

thank you Phil, I found it! The 4g is running like a champ now:). I honestly feel the 4g Ranger is the best out of all of the Rangers so far. This thread is old. The 5g on the other hand has transmission issues that despite having full warranty and 3 dealer trips are still present.
