Bucking/Surging Epidemic

Had a bucking/slight miss around the 25mph-50mph range while feathering the gas pedal. No CEL would come on but it was similar to a coil pack going bad. Replaced part# LB5Z9J433B EGR vacuum CONTROL. VALVE - EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATE and during the test drive it seemed to remedy the issue. Very easy to replace. Took about 10-15 minutes. Will keep you all updated as the days go.

Oddly enough, I think that was one of the things they replaced in my situation as well.

I have the same issue. It’s been doing it since about 40k, but I’ve had to wait to take it in til it’s very noticable. The local dealer has techs that are like Helen Keller. I took it in and the had it for 3 days and then said it needed plugs and the injectors cleaned for $580. I have made a new appointment and have a case with Ford.

Well, I got a reply from my dealer. They put in a query to Ford themselves and it looks like whoever is in charge at Ford HQ has put in a stop order on all work on my vehicle and a technician is gonna be sent out to take a further in depth look at this issue.

So....this is gonna be interesting.

Yeah, I hear ya. This dealer is horrible but I’m tired of driving 1-2 hrs for a decent one. I bound and determined they will fix the truck. It helps that I did verify it’s the EGR issue before I took it back. I have a case open with Ford and I intend to call the service manager and ask for the refund on the “diagnostics” since they were wrong and cost me $200 bucks in parts and services. I tried to tell the SA that if it needed plugs and injector serive at 54k something is wrong but you can’t tell them anything. My 21 Edge will be my last new Ford. Tired of the the lack of service after the sale.

Mine does this with the stock tune and the loaded tune from SCT. A Performance tune by Torrie fixed mine.
I’m convinced it’s in the tuning.

Until Ford decides to do something, assuming enough people complain through CS I’ll stick with an aftermarket tune.
Maybe Fords own $500 tune option is their intended fix?? I don’t know it the owners of this tune is having any issues but I suspect they are not and Ford does know how to program, why they can’t get it right on a stock truck is beyond me.

Time to leave it with the dealer.

Early on I always thought, and yours might be, it was fuel injector or spark related. I have read stories about faulty injectors in the early models but now at 27k miles I feel sure “my issues” are tranny programming.

Damn shame, we are having these problems when both the engine and transmission has been around for a while. Really discourages me from buying another Ford.

Coming up on 40k miles, running the performance tune and have swapped back a forth with the stock tune.
The stock tune runs better now than it did new and both tunes average 20 mpg’s 90% city driving.

Even with the performance tune I have still experienced what I call a stall, blank spot like no fuel but only on a few occasions and going up hill.
The stock tune, when new, this stall was aggravating, almost continuously. Now that miles have been racked up the stock tune is drivable and I could live with it.

My dealer is also clueless and Fords CS just points me back to the dealer.

I don’t feel my symptoms warrant replacement of theDPFE sensor but early on wet weather did affect drivability.

I also had the vibrations that many have reported, that too has disappeared.

Well, I they got it back and magically figured out its the EGR in 20 minutes. Of course that’s not under warranty either and they still swear the plugs and injectors were an issue. I’m so done with new Fords. I’ll just start buying used, out of warranty vehicles.

Ford warrants emissions equipment for 8/80k. How many miles have you got?

Well, I they got it back and magically figured out its the EGR in 20 minutes. Of course that’s not under warranty either and they still swear the plugs and injectors were an issue. I’m so done with new Fords. I’ll just start buying used, out of warranty vehicles.

Did they happen to say what specific part was bad? All this should be covered by warranty regardless, but the component that's been typically replaced by others in this thread in the past is fairly inexpensive.

Nope, only the catalytical converter, emissions electronic stuff is covered in the 8/80k warranty. Everything else is bumper-to-bumper, not even powertrain warranty. Very frustrating.

I’ve got 54K but sure enough I looked it up and called Ford. It only has 2y 24k mile warranty in that componet. They were gonna do what I’ve seen them try before. Get you to bite on services that cost enough to swallow that part and swap it while they’re in there. They knew what it was way to quick after I brought it back.

The issue I have is that I pay all that money for new vehicles and always have hell with warranty issues. I will just buy used or another brand from now on, tired of this with them. I would’ve never thought an emisson control sensor/valve would not be covered or I would’ve just changed it myself.
