I know it's been said before, brakes on the Ranger are generally short lived. In all my pick ups, suv's and cars, I've never had the rears wear out first. Usually I get 80k or so on rears. My driving habits are the same, so I'm interested in what your thoughts are as to why they wear out easier (in my case). Mine are very close at 40k

30k they still look great, but squeal annoyingly. I bedded them when new, I check them after a lot of gravel driving, but they are noisy to the point of bugging me.

I checked mine today with the brake lining gauge tool and they measured 8mm all around @ 17,569 miles of mostly highway, rotors looked ok.

Cheaper parts with lesser specs than you‘ve had in the past.
Mine are new and have been sqeaking for 5000 miles. They have been checked 2x and they tell me they are fine. ?

Traction control. These things apply brake pressure at the slightest incline, where the rear tires may spin or lose traction even in light rain, especially while towing. How do I know? Pulling out of a slick driveway or road the truck will apply rear brakes until it gets rolling, even with slight throttle, as it assumes a loss of traction (especially in the cold). It’s like Ford engineers wanted to optimize traction over brake life even though the chance of a slight traction loss is near none. At least my truck does this.

Traction control sounds plausible although my last vehicle had it and brakes went to 92k, only replaced because my wife was getting car. She only gets 35 to 40k on a set.
Never hear any squealing or pulsation. Never bedded brakes, never had a reason to. 2019 Lariat and so far have been free of all major complaints I read about on here. Don't think this is much of a complaint either, as it seems the norm for this truck.

Not throwing shade on anyone but maybe it's the driver? If @Msfitoy has 112K and the brakes are still good what could be the difference? Maybe it is breaking habits?

Yes, off-road dust, dirt and grime can accelerate brake wear but unless you are driving down unpaved roads most of the time, I just don't see that as a cause.

Normally on RWD the rears are used with ABS for stability control...

I believe the op said he's never had this happen before. Same for me: I've been driving 50 years and never had back brakes go out at 40k. I'm certain my driving habits didn't make my back brakes go out while my front brakes were still ok. Something else is to blame. IMO

As my other post details, mine went out at 7100 miles!! It all has to do with the use case, IMO. Had the same issue with the 2005 Ranger... not quit that quickly as I was driving much more back then, but it to did site a lot without a lot of highway miles when it was used (basic grocery gett'r).

Brake by wire. The computer can use more rear brake safely than ever before. So rears wear out sooner. More rear brake keeps the nose from diving as much too.
If you ever had rear brakes lock up before the fronts at speed (scary is a mild descriptor) you would understand the forward bias built into the earlier systems.
