I don't have a page reference, but removing the tensioner is pretty straight forward. I borrowed the picture from another who posted on this thread.

Put a wrench or socket /ratchet on the Stud (labeled 1) and lift up. The tensioner will move counterclockwise allowing you to remove the belt. Once you have the belt off the tensioner pulley, lower the tensioner by taking the pressure off the stud. With the belt off the tensioner remove the two bolts (labeled 2).

It;s not what you asked for, but I hope it helps.

Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner

Removal


NOTICE: Under no circumstances should the accessory drive belt, tensioner or pulleys be lubricated as potential damage to the belt material and tensioner damping mechanism will occur. Do not apply any fluids or belt dressing to the accessory drive belt or pulleys.


NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

1. Refer to: Health and Safety Precautions (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation).

2. Remove the accessory drive belt.
Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt (303-05 Accessory Drive - 2.3L EcoBoost (201kW/273PS), Removal and Installation).

3. NOTE: The accessory drive belt tensioner must be replaced as a complete unit.
  1. Loosen the bolts and remove the accessory drive belt tensioner.
    Torque : 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

I got to thinking about this timing chain cover failure again, and I have to ask, when these failures occurred, why hasn't Ford simply installed the alternate tensioners used on the iterations of the 2.3L in other Ford platforms. Replacing that cover is far more expensive then replacing the tensioner. A poorly designed ear broke off that did nothing except to support a tensioner. And right there on the head is an ideal location already designed and used in countless other 2.3L ecoboost engines with ZERO failures reported over nearly a decade of real world use.

It is there. It has a proven reliability record. It is far less expensive repair.

Bureaucratic inertia? We can't do that, it's the wrong part number! We didn't make it for the Ford Ranger, you must use the part we designated for this vehicle. If we do that, we'll have chaos! Think of the lawsuits! Our supplier will be unhappy.

What's the real reason?

Whatever it is.... somewhere, common sense got flushed.

Of course Ford has engineers. They might not be the best engineers, but then again this is Ford we're talking about.

The real kick in the nads is that if we use the improved version to try and save ourselves , Ford will 100% void any remaining warranty and blame the better engineered part that we installed to try and cover both our asses...

I'm done with Ford service. I bought an extended warranty and regret doing it. If the transmission fails I won't be going to Ford to repair it. My time and peace of mind is far more important to me then arguing with Ford Service... and then wondering if they actually follow through with their commitments.

I'll get real engineering folks making parts that will last, and find a great mechanic to install.

I'd rather pay them than Ford.

IIRC someone here a while ago attempted (or was attempting) to do it and found out it was going to be more of a hassle than it was worth. For one the electronics/computer would be a hassle getting them to work well and the 4wd/TC controller would have to be moved. Then there's the gearing and pedal and linkage controls having to be worked in.

If someone was going to attempt this they'd better have deep pockets and a lot patience. lol It might be a fun project but not something worth while trying on your daily driver. I'd recommend them using a salvage truck because it sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen.

Three statements of fact...

1 - I'm too old and tired to do that. 20 years ago and no fancy electronics and I would be up for it.

2 - I'd swap $$ for peace of mind in a heart beat.

3 - And I'm probably more frugal than 99% of the population. Note: Frugal does not equal parsimonious / selfish.
