I've had my Ranger for 6 mos now and I've worked through most of the things that bother me about the truck. My biggest gripe now is the terrible throttle response and shifting characteristics. Is there a moderate TUNE out there that will help with this? I'm not looking to race the thing, I just want it to move when I press the gas. Sport mode is definitely better but I don't want it to hold the shifts quite so long.

NOOOOOOOO! Not the pedal commander again. Do not do it it is a waste.

Put it in S Throttle response and shifting is better. If that does not do it……..

Any good tune will make the transmission shifting better. I went with the OZ omega tune. Flash it and forget it. Pick any of the major ones and it will be better.

So there are quite a bit of tunes out there that will give you better throttle response and better shifting characteristics. The question for you is what tune do you wish to run? Are you planning to tow at all(if any)? Are you planning to go all out super high speed? Are you still wanting to retain reliability? These are some questions you do need to ask yourself.

On a side not the 10R80 is a whole different animal of its own compared to other transmissions and the learning process usually takes around 5,000 miles to be dialed in for the most part.

Thats my input

It’s almost like Brian is trying to de-rail my 3 month prediction on the next thread for bickering about tunes.

if you just want better shifting points/some extra warranty and reliability then go with FP tune. If you want all sorts of variety but still reliable go with Livernois/unleashed. If you want strong power output off the bat but need to buy extra warranty, 5star. All the other tunes I have not heard enough reliability about nor researched enough. But these four names will pop up frequently here.

I went through all the thought process of tunes, etc. I didn't want to mess with the warranty, and I'm not in my truck a lot anyway. But, when I am driving, I do have to goose the throttle sometimes and wish it was more responsive.

I don't really like band aid solutions, but maybe a pedal commander type thing might work for me.

All I have to say is FIVE STAR TUNE for the Ford Ranger……. Well worth the money if you are looking for more horses and pedal response….

Tow mode.

I've found it to be a perfect balance between D and S.

I suspect it gives better MPGs than D for my driving style as well. Currently expirementing with that

If you're not looking to gain more hp/tq you could try a Pedal Commander. There are several different settings that you can adjust it to. Easy self install and no warranty worries.

There's also the EVC throttle controller which is cheaper and looks to do the same as the Pedal Commander.

The evc throttle controller site is unsafe. They've obviously not updated their site certs, and on my network (which I have a higher quality router) it won't let me reach it. I even tried to bypass the warnings, but, nada. bummer

Added: Try this one. https://ultimate9usa.com/products/e...nger-2019-onwards?_pos=1&_sid=b18ff1d19&_ss=r

I didn't get any warnings on my laptop which I normally do on sites like this. Maybe just try Googling EVC and get a better link.
