Auto start/stop feature elimination for free?

I used the nightlight mod successfully for months on my 2020 Lariat to disable ASS. I had to replace my battery due to age and the nightlight mod no longer stops ASS. Any thoughts?

If the battery is in good enough shape, then chances are the auto start-stop will work as long as it hasn't been disabled in some sort of way. If you are hell-bent on disabling the auto start stop, you are going to have to do something with a purchase to make it stop. Your options include a tune specific to the vehicle and a plug-and-play module. There are a couple of different plug and play modules that are relatively inexpensive that will disable the auto start stop. If you go through a tune you can easily have the tuner shut off the auto start stop and increase performance on your truck. I went the tune route on mine.

My 2019 Ranger's ASS stopped working (brace yourselves -- I like ASS and use it). This is often a sign of a weak battery Took the truck to the dealer, they tested and confirmed a weak battery and replaced it. All good now and I will be in the 1% who uses ASS, leaves the BMS alone and operates the truck the way Ford designed it.

Problem is, once they engineered it, the lawyers and EPA compliance department got hold of it and buggered things up.

I'm not saying we're all smarter than Ford's engineers, but compromises are made all the time in production vehicles, ASS being one of them. The other being where they set the charge level to.

1. Not properly charging an AGM (Or any battery for that matter) is hard on it. Ford doesn't care, the battery will probably outlast the warranty (just), so it isn't of concern to them and they get points with the EPA for having better fuel economy.

2. There are apparently developing problems coming out of 10R80 land where the supplemental pumps are failing. These pumps run when ASS is active to keep line pressure in the trans up when the engine is stopped. Again, you'll probably make it out of warranty and then into an expensive repair.

Some of us keep our trucks past the warranty period and if we can drive down the cost of maintenance for ourselves over the long haul, we'll be happier.

In the end, glad you're happy with your ASS.

There is an absolute shit ton of 'that'll do' when it comes to production cars, and sometimes that comes around to bite owners in the ass over time, so no, I don't put absolute faith in 'Ford Engineers'.

Try an AC wall adaptor you no longer use. I have an obsolete phone charger that I cut off the cord and plug it into the AC port. Works great. It's just enough of a load, with nothing attached, to trick the truck into thinking something is plugged in, therefore disabling the ASS.
