An inopportune closing of the garage may have occurred. No family members have been harmed.
The safety sensors should've stopped it no?

Either way: ?

Same here.

I didn't worry about it when zi bought the truck. But when I came home after my lift, and then again with after adding tires, I was a bit cautious.

Sorry about the house. Hope all is well now.
I had my winters on when I moved in, I was a little concerned about my summers swap over, they are a little taller.

Thanks. Yes, me and the dogs got out, and the house is being rebuilt, so all is as good as it can be.

I've explained things to my cars before but they never listen and just do what they want.

I know spell check got ya, but it's funny anyway.

I adjusted my garage door opener to raise the door just a tad more, due to the antenna, as before adjustment only had 1 inch clearance. This was a must do check for me, when I test drove the Ranger (Will it Fit?) Yes, (F-150) nope too long of a bed. So, I have (1) foot of space in front and (1) foot of space in back - when the parking sensor turns red - (I'm in and have a foot of space between front bumper and Air Compressor & Toolboxes.

You had far better outcome than a co-worker, he pulled into his new house (garage) for first time and creased the top of his cab with the door opener bracket hanging down.

How short are you people's garages?

I have a standard garage, a lifted Ranger on 33"s and still have plenty of clearance.
I think most standard garage doors are 7 or 8 foot tall. But if the door is not adjusted properly, or there are any approach angle differences the clearance could vary. I used to install and service garage doors and I could tell a lot of stories on what homeowners do by mistake or sheer ignorance.

Gotcha. Didn't consider approach angle or install mistakes.

Or even doors and openers that have a lot of wear on them. Weak springs, loose or worn hardware, and/or poorly adjusted opener can cause the door to hang a little low when in the up position.

That sucks Jason, but definitely could have been worse. Glad you're okay at least ;)

My house burned down in November so I moved into a rental. After reading how many on here need stubbie antennas or don't fit in the garage at all, I was a little worried my lifted and big tire Ranger wouldn't fit in the attached garage, but was pleasantly surprised that it was close but cleared. First time I backed in, I was holding my phone out the window using it like a mirror to check for clearance.

I just measured, and I have 83 & 3/4 to the rubber gasket, and less than 1/2" clearance over my antenna.
Jeezaloo Jay, sorry to hear this. Glad things are being rebuilt, but still. :(

I had similar thoughts when I leveled and put 32s on my Ranger - will it fit? Then, I worried about the platform rack, then, the gun cases on top. I mounted my traction boards on top of the rifle cases and realized I couldn’t back out of the garage. ? ? ? ? Oops.

Routine garage door and opener maintenance is important. It can be one of those things you take for granted until something happens. Not saying that's what happened to OP, but as a former garage door mechanic, I can say for certain neglect can lead to major damage. You can have your local garage door company come out and do routine maintenance just like your HVAC, or at least keep an eye on how it is working.

I'm comfortable I can put what ever size tires I want on an be ok. But seriously didn't someone on here have that emergency release chain catch the antenna an rip it out? I had one of those on my condo garage since the overhead door was the only access. You unlocked it with a key an pulled the lock that came out to pull the garage door release so you could open it without power.

I'm jealous of your garage.

Thanks Duke. I thought I had posted a thread about the whole adventure, but apparently not. Mr Big face in my avatar woke me up, and we all got out safely, the house and stuff can be replaced.

Yep, another source of owner lack of knowledge. At least a few years ago, there was a saftey cord that you can pull that separates the opener from the door. This can result in the bar than connects the opener to the door dropping free and becoming a dangling obstruction. But with the opener separated from the door, you could manually raise and lower the door in an emergency.
