My 2022 2WD Ranger with about 27,000 miles on it is consistently every morning now(or just when the truck has sat long enough) it will buck/jolt changing gears. 10-15 mins into the drive everything is fine. So my guess its failing. I tow regularly 4000-5000lbs (track car) so I am guessing this has accelerated the wear. Scheduled an appointment. I am going to drop it off the day before so the tech can drive it first thing and see what I see. Hopefully they just go straight to a new trans.

This is exactly how I would describe my truck's trans/shifting issue. I am guessing you're having the CDF drum slipping issue. Only thing that's confusing is that I thought they updated the part by the time your truck was built. Wish I could be more help. Could also be the egr sensor. My understanding is both of those things can cause your symptoms.

The valve body and cdf issues are for trans built up until August of 2022.

I had both issues repaired (separately) under the TSB AND went through the EGR replacement also.

It sucked. It's better now....and I recently installed the Ford Tune, which made it even better.

I've been saying for a while on here....a lot of guys still haven't gotten to their trans problems yet. Some of the guys who don't drive a ton aren't going to experience this until they're just out of warranty. I'm pretty sure my trans issues worsened around 22-26K miles....that where the OP's at.

For anyone reading this that doesn't drive much, have a plan before your warranty goes out. At the very least, while under warranty tell them you're trans was built pre 8/22 and ask them to check/scan the transmission just to make sure it doesn't show any symptoms you may have been used to. I think the dealers make money from the warranty repair work, so they may actually be inclined to find something. Can't hurt.

do you warm your truck up prior to driving it? for what it's worth, my 2019 gets grumpy in the first few miles and has rough shifts if i start it and take off on a cold engine. i mentioned this to my ford dealer and they told me that the 10R80 certainly likes to be warm. if your mornings have been colder, it could be a contributor to what you're seeing.

i'm not saying your transmission isn't failing and i'm not saying it is. i can only say that anecdotally, warming my truck up with a remote start prior to driving, just like 2-3 minutes at least, and i don't have jolts/hard shifts. with a cold start my truck is a grumpy goose.

They will most likely follow the TSB 24-2101 steps.
1st is reflash the software
2nd is clean/replace the valve body
3rd is replace CDF drum or replace transmission under the LTIS ( low time in service) policy.

What’s your build date?

This sounds similar to what my truck was doing. I have much higher mileage, but for me the valve body replacement has resolved it. I understand that, for many anyway, the cdf drum issue will even shift into neutral with no warning. I never had anything like that, just the bucking, especially with cold. I have driven about 2k miles since the repair and my transmission shifts great! I have tight at 9k miles now. Also, some of the bucking can be caused by the dpfe sensor failing. I have replaced mine 2 times since I bought the truck for this, but the dpfe sensor caused bucking is a different feeling than the transmission issue.

Mine (a 2019) has done this from day 1 - 1 or 2 hard shifts if it is cold - if I warm it up it behaves better. Someone said running it from drive to neutral to reverse and back before you start out helps as well. They do not like it when the fluid is cold for sure.

My former 2021 I had began shifting differently intermittently at around 19k miles and by 21k miles it was really slow to engage drive or reverse when shifting from park after sitting a few hours. I had also had two instances of the transmission doing what felt like shifting into neutral while accelerating and upshifting. Kind of like it missed a gear and the engine rev'd up for a second. Other than that, 95 % of the time it was a smooth transmission and it never set a trouble code in memory. This was all before the latest tsb procedures were published. Unfortunately, between the dealers available in my area and the intermittent nature of the problems, I wasn't able to get any traction towards resolution. Hope Ford is able to help the OP out.

Mine is the same way. Has been grumpy when cold for the first 15 minutes since new. Tow haul mode smooths it out some. Worst transmission I have ever had in a new vehicle but at least it smooths out eventually. Glad I bought the extended warranty. This is why friends don't let friends buy Rangers. Maybe a hybrid or E version will fix the problem someday.

Wasn't there some problems with low trans fluid levels causing some of this.

Just hoping you get lucky.

can you let everyone know the outcome with details of what they found and how they fix it? i bought a car shield warranty in case anything goes wrong on my 2019 2wd.

I had some weird shifting when I bought the truck used 2 years ago. I had to talk the dealer into checking my trans fluid level because I had read here some came low from the factory. It was a quart low and the weird shifting disappeared. $301 to check and top off something they should have done at the factory.
