For straight line speed? I am sure there is a bypass to keep it locked up. I think Toyota people have the brown wire mod. This allows them to lock it whenever they want. Pretty sure you could figure that one out. Or is it you want more options?
It stays locked as long as it has load against it, just like 4wd. I’d rather have an lsd too though. The locker is better than nothing but for me, I want an lsd.

At the time I knew a lowering kit was coming and I wasn't sure if it was going to work on 4wd. Knowing what I know now I would have went 4wd if I did it again.

Ill make this $%^*& thing quick and launch if it kills it.

I also wish we had more access to tech specs on our block. Id like to know what the true ceiling is as we are apples to oranges vs the other 2.3 offerings. I know it all tune, but im not looking to stress crack blocks or pop head gaskets on the regular. I like my oil and water separate please.

I just want to say that the whole...

"Looks like you're copying my truck"

"I'm not, I'm copying this one"

"But mine's a copy of that one too"

Exchange was absolutely stellar!
Well, I was originally going to say the SCT SEMA truck, but when I usually say that, most people have no clue what I'm talking about, but I do know you've seen my build thread and I've stated that I was going to clone the SCT SEMA truck and I would say that I'm about 95% there ;)

Hmm Derek I will check into that. Not worried about the speed it disengages. The procedure to lock the rear takes too long and i thoroughly enjoy a light goose every now and the in a good spot for some sideways action. Also traction control off messes with my cruise control. I know, I know; I told you im getting spoiled.
not sure you can get immediate engagement. I know arb makes an air locker, but thats for crawling and add excessive weight. A manual on off switch and zero traction control would be ideal. My last truck had a lock rite locker the lunchbox style and zero electric nannies other than abs. The throttle determined if the locker was on or off. It was slow as sin but fun.

I had lots of luck with the traction lok in the ford 8.8. It never did me wrong. I prefer the lsd that acts like full lock when under load and allows slight slippage for turns. Ive had a few different lsd designs over the years, some clicked, some clunked, some would occasionally chirp the tire softly at low speeds. I honestly have no idea which was the best. Im not a road racer I couldnt tell you if I want a 1 way or a 1.5 way lsd. I just know I want both tires to spin and I prefer oversteer when I want to induce it.

Yes and you did a damn fine job of it.

The only way to fully disable all nannies in our trucks is a long button push to disable advancetrak, and sand mode.

The TM mod can be done to any 4wd, but as far as I know it's currently impossible to disable Roll Stability Control in a 2wd Ranger. This puts a huge damper, pun intended, on the sideways fun for our drive wheel challenged brethren.

Also, our factory locker will remain engaged as long as you keep your foot fully in it. Verified up to at least 50/60mph personally.

I'm not interested in racing or fastest time, but I do like the look of the lowered Rangers. Is the process to lower a Ranger difficult, time consuming, and expensive?

It’s pretty straightforward to install the kit. There are a few options. As long as you don’t put stupid huge tires on the process is simply parts replacement.

So I spent about half an hour talking to one of the engineers at FRPP the other day. He wasn't aware so many folks were trying to squeeze out a bunch of power on the Ranger. I asked about the mustang ecoboost cams going in our engine. He said he would have to do more digging to be sure, but he stated he thought they would not :/

I went on to chat with him about the Ranger and a possible performance version of our truck or the Maverick. He said there has been talk about both, but it never goes beyond the "writing on the napkin" stage.

/frustrated

I know the old adage to each their own, but Im tired of the market being so heavily influenced by automakers appeasing all the 4wd concrete warriors. I have the means to buy the Ranger Raptor, but it is so far out from what I want to do. I'm gonna be real pissed off if I have to buy it for performance sake. Plus Im not a huge fan of how dealers have been raking folks over the coals on crazy markup. I"m guessing the Ranger Raptor should go for ~55k. I also believe dealers will expect to push that above 65k. Can you imagine me throwing this seat of wheels and tires on the Raptor? What about lowering it?

Finally did it today. I bought the whole Belltech kit over a year ago including control arms. I did the whole swap today on the ground, but I was a tech in a past life. I had my cordless impact which made it go quick. My Ranger is an FX2 so I could get the locker. Unfortunately it utilizes higher ride height springs so the effective lowering is less than usual, but my tire change (295/35/18 Toyo Proxes) made up the difference. I lowered Fr 2.75" R 4" but I will be changing to 5" rear as a rake of 1.4" still exists. The kit went on smoothly save for missing bolts that I had to procure. Just waiting on my Airdesign flares to come in now.

I wont be acquiring regular ride height rated springs as I am a mountainbiker and I live in the mountains so I need to retain some semblance of ground clearance.

I have a lowered ranger 4WD on belltechs 2/4, and I have zero complaints. Saving up for the 3 link leaf delete lower kit and front coilovers.

I like the control freak rear kit. I find it overkill for what I want to do. A set of Caltrecs will make a big difference in launch traction which is all I want. If I was more of a canyon carver atm I would go for it. Needless to say I'm up in the air for a bit. Im deciding if I want to put a deposit down a Raptor or wait to see if it can be speced with the 3.0 without Raptor or just throw more money at this thing and see what it can do. Honestly I just need to find a fuel vendor within ~30 miles that is willing to add E85. I know I would be happier with performance on that fuel.

I'm just at the point where making a lot more power is a bit tougher on this version of this engine. The Mustang guys have it easy. They have a plethora of options that wont work for us cams, turbos, balance shaft delete kits, etc. I need to see what the US version of the 3.0 ecoboost makes out of the box. (it is also 98 lbs heavier than the 2.3) I do believe it has a lot more potential for making power, but I feel that may be a little time from now. I don't think tuners have made a lot of changes on this iteration due to lack of popularity. I may be wrong though. In any case I cant decide right now. Also not real excited about being on a waiting waiting list! My sister just got her Bronco two months ago. She put money down on the Sasquatch as soon as she found out she could.

I have started prepping the wife on the hey I need a new truck even though this has 6k miles on it. :p It wasn't met with the D word so its all good so far.

I have a feeling we would get along well sir. If we can stop scarecrowing each other! I actually want the damn thing to run mid 12s on pump gas! Yeah I feel you I'm at ~3k altitude and hours from a track. also its nice to be able to drive fast again. Ice in the mountains is either a no drive or a drive very lightly mode. I still cant believe they sold off the Atlanta drag strip. I just know mine is nowhere near a 12 sec ride by feel. It honestly feels like when I started with a fox body with optional 3.08 gears and no mods like ok this is a good starting point. They were low 14 high 13 secs cars.
I will run the 12s and post it once I do fellas.

For reference here is what it takes to get a Maverick deeep in the 12s, as in on e85 he might hit high 11s. His goal at starting was hitting 12s for 1k. I think he has just under 1.5k in it. I think after we spend $5k on go fast mods we are still slower by a wide margin. As in over half a second slower.

https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...orsair-2-3t-turbo-on-ecoboost-maverick.26190/

I don't want to make people angry but this truck is not quick at all. It takes way too much to make it get there. I have since installed my dp and intercooler and retuned. Its just meh. Too much weight, not enough hp. I am going to do the Mustang ecoboost snowkit and see how it is and make my final decision. I chose this as Ethanol is not realistic for me (4 hr roundtrip over several mountain ranges) whereas making a trip to stock up on methanol is way easier 55g drums vs 5g.

Im waiting too see what amount of crazy money they are gonna ask for the ranger raptor or possibly if that engine will be sold detuned in a regular ranger. I may also down size to the maverick. I don't really want to do this though. While I appreciate what the Maverick poster achieved I wouldn't want to push that transmission that hard in awd with the amount of tq he is now making. Mostly the truck is too small for me.
