No pics.. Just wanted to say at 56k the diff fluid flowed out a clear gold color. The drain plug did have some fine metal shavings stuck to it but nothing out the ordinary. Didn't surprise methat it was still good, to be honest. I bet it could have made 100k easy.

Changed mine recently at 24k. Looked good and only a sludgy gob of grease on the plug

I'm thinking of doing a transmission fluid change soon around 70k. I'm ignorant about the differential. I have a 2wd. What do the more informed recommend?

For the low cost I'd change it!

Diff fluid isn't expensive. If you have a drain plug that makes it really easy. If you feel like doing it then go for it. I'd say it's not something urgent.

Ranger diffs are pretty good, it's the transfer cases that are harder on their oil (in the 4x4s that is). Changing the transfer case oil at semi regular intervals is a good idea for those not in a 2WD.

You will get a different answer from each of us.
If its a mall crawler, youll be fine, off road or work, depends on how hard you run it. I have a fx2 tow and stuff so ill do it before the scheduled maintenance, same as tranny fluid. I dont even know what that number is lol, 29k on my odo and only 15months of ownership with this ranger

I had a 4wd with the rear locker an changed the fluid at 20K an I was surprised how dirty the rear was. The front looked fresh. I never used 4wd much but I used to use the locker to do some hard launches after I got the tune.

Mis using the Locker is probably the main cause to the fluid looking like such. Keep that up and you can expect to see the rear end grenade on you.

What kind of diff fluid did you use and how much did you need?
