I'm going to lose my rewards points next month so I need to do something. At 38000 miles should I get a tranny fluid change? What would you suggest.

Definitely wouldn’t hurt. I changed mine at around 80k miles. Roughly 1/2 the miles that Ford recommended before it needed to be changed. Mine looked like coffee and the new was almost clear. The filter looked surprisingly clean though. I changed it as well since I was already that far into the job plus the mileage.

Coincidently I just had a long talk with the owner of a larger transmission repair facility yesterday because I was concerned about maintaining my own 10R80 transmission in my '24 Ranger Raptor.

I specifically asked about repairs for the newer 10-speed transmissions after Ford changed the CDF drum in early '22. He said he hasn't seen any of Ford's newer 10-speeds in for repair after Ford made the change, although acknowledged those newer models typically have fewer miles.

I asked about transmission service. He said 60K was okay as long as you didn't tow or tow in hot weather which can get the fluid hot. I didn't ask about how often when towing, but clearly more often than 60K. Personally, I intend to make my initial transmission fluid and filter change at 25K and every 50K thereafter. Same for the transfer case because there are clutch plates that engage/disengage while in "4A." Not all Rangers/F150s have the 4A transfer case option however.

GM's co-developed w/Ford's 10-speed is having problems to the point there is a class action law suit. The problem he said, and I've noted elsewhere, is the long wait for parts - up to seven months. That's along time to be without your truck, particularly if it's a work truck. Don't know the differences between Ford and GM's 10-speed.

Your Raptor has the 10R60 in it. Shouldn’t have the issues that the 10R80 and 10R 140 had. But those maintenance recommendations are good advice for the 10R60 also.
