I'm sure I read about similar issues in 2019 Raptors and biturbo Rangers in Australia, but I can't find anything in the groups I'm in. I think it was the MAP sensor. Is that screen grab all the codes you have?
Redarc make good stuff, expensive, but very high quality. I use their chargers, relays etc on vehicles at work and have had no issues (even on the custom programmed stuff).
As for the wiring, run your own power cable to the trailer. Don't rely on the extra pin in the plug, the gauge of wire...
Pic for detail. The 10R family have a slightly usual oil pump drive, but these are the gears that make the noise. The failures were seen with the 10R80 and 2L four cylinder diesel, Ford changed to a billet gearset in 2020 to address this. No idea if that change was specific to RoW Ranger, or all...
How far did it move? Remember that park is engaging a pawl against a gear. There is lash that allows the output shaft to rotate a little, combine this with the rest of the driveline lash, suspension torque-up etc and you can get perhaps 3-4 inches of movement in park.
Edit, sorry, didn't...
They're straight cut gears, so they rattle a bit (depending on the engine of course) at idle, and whine when the RPM is up. The rattle actually led to them failing in the diesel engined Rangers we have here in Aus, Ford had to go to a more durable material to stop the teeth shearing off.
The 10R family oil pump gearing does make a lot of noise, so that's likely the source. The plastic pan doesn't deaden the internal noise like an aluminium pan would either.
The 10 speed was not used here in this joint venture Ranger because it is not manufactured in China. Therefore its importation would attract large duties, the ZF transmission however is manufactured in China and is free from duties. There is no other reason.
This is not a Ford, this is a JMC...
Correct, it's a case of being able to source a Chinese made transmission and not a US made transmission.
FYI it's built by a different Chinese company, Changan only do the cars.
JMC do the larger stuff under licence. People calling this a Ford when it's as much a Ranger as the JMC Landwind was...
The Chinese love the Germans because the Germans like to make a quick buck and let the Chinese build (read steal) their stuff locally. ZF builds a bucket load of transmissions in China, MTU builds engines there, these are all 'Joint Venture' setups (just like the baby 2.8 Cummins). Local...
Its a Joint Venture vehicle, take anything that flog Paul Maric writes with a grain of salt (emphasising the German part of the ZF 8HP, despite it being Chinese made).
The ZF 8HP is built in China, so are the two engines that they are using, that's why it has it. The 10R family is only built in...
Another thing that came to mind, no idea if your US market Rangers have the same front differential as ours do, but check the Ford factory fill volume on the front differential. Ours are only 800ml, not the full 1200ml of oil. If you fill it full, it throws oil out of the breather and makes a...
Instead of a one piece, you could get a two piece made with four UJs, like in a lot of trucks. This would allow for correct phasing.
Or do what Ford did in my Raptor from factory, two UJs (one at each end) and a CV joint in the middle between the two halves, this allows the end UJs to be...
Did you touch the pinion when putting that stuff in? If not it could be the preload, if you did I would have expected it to whine straight away.
I never found out what the cause of mine was, the dealer had to send the diff centre back to Ford Australia for investigation. I believe from the...
Ranger diffs are pretty good, it's the transfer cases that are harder on their oil (in the 4x4s that is). Changing the transfer case oil at semi regular intervals is a good idea for those not in a 2WD.
I'm on the other side of the planet, but my Raptor had a whining on deceleration. The dealer diagnosed it as the rear differential and replaced it under warranty. This was at around 10,000km on the clock.
Agree with this.
Does the US Ranger use the disc brakes at the rear for the park brake? My Raptor which has what I thought were the same callipers uses a separate drum brake.
Most likely. Anecdotally the North American 5G had a lighter frame than the Australian market, due to lower gross vehicle mass requirements.
The frame is no wider on the 6G, the front control arms are longer. The front suspension was redesigned to make the engine bay more spacious, but the...
