I have been wanting to get ahold of a (old) clutch as i want to know how important is the (OE) positioning of the sensor - we know the support tube is to keep the sensor in position as well as a support for the harness - since the ones that have had a broken hose and no drivability issues and the sensor is (off) clock - I do not think it really matters - but not confirmed yet, I think as long as the sensor itself is stable - then the PCM can see accurate fan speed, the actual position should not matter - but while the sensor is (actually) moving then the PCM cannot accurately determine fan speed.
So yes the sensor itself needs to be (stabilized) as its recording a moving target

The fan clutch position is not part of the fan clutch feedback. The PCM only needs fan speed. So, if a replacement hose put the clutch in a slightly different position, it is not an issue.

This part of the Ranger design, to me, looks like it was overlooked from the beginning and only caught halfway down the assembly line and they came up with something on the fly...
Even when "good" , its the damn loudest fan design that I have ever had or even herd before ... sounds like im leaving the house in a jet every morning...

At least it’s not the A220 - Whale Call, I can hear that engine in low power operations a mile away from it - very unique to the A220 engines (engine design)

It's hose that braces the wire, it's either broken or it's not. There isn't a warning. With any vehicle you own you should make a habit of looking under your hood. . That's how I found mine before it let loose.

It's not the greatest of designs but I haven't owned a vehicle that didn't have some sort of bad design.

Good luck getting Ford to cover it.
You can see deterioration well before it goes if you look. The hose dry rots at both ends. $10 could have avoided it.

I personally think it a terrible design, for 3 reasons:

1 - it's a cheap flimsy hose prone to rotting, and it's running across & just above a high speed belt.
2 - When it fails, it adversely affects 6 or 7 other critical systems.
3 - If the belt goes, you have the same critical failure and results.

Probably the picture angle, but the cable looks close to the pulley. I'd rotate it to the top of the hose.
It's the angle...there's plenty of clearance over the pulley =)

You should replace the hose if broken. Its main purpose is to prevent the fan clutch from rotating (anti-rotation device), not to support the wiring. Its secondary purpose is to support the wiring. The wires are not up to the job of preventing the clutch from rotating.
Agreed, the hose prevents the clutch from rotating, but I wonder how long ago my hose broke and relied on the wires providing anti-rotation!
Think I caught it in time and now fixed!

Running out to the truck to install my own miniature version of a driveshaft safety loop for that harness. Thanks @JohnnyO !
You don't have to make it tight, just enough to hold the harness up and out of the way.

If that cheap rotting hose breaks on the engine side only, will that hose then be spinning with the fan clutch thing? If so it seems if may still take the wires with it even if zip tied to the 2 upper hoses. Those original plastic clamps are tight on that cheap hose which also hold the wires. Is there any point to completely separate the wire loom from the rotting hose and zip tie it to the upper 2 hoses alone?
