I stop carrying heavy packs on long hikes a long long long time ago. And i comolain about getting old a lot. Body does not move like it once did, now i look like john elway walking down the hall.
Not as good as i once was, but as good once as i ever was.
First mod on my truck was the tailgate assist.

I have heard knees are the toughest from a rehab standpoint. I can say if you get a good surgeon, hips are maybe a little tougher than a wisdom tooth but compared to all the hardware they install, pretty easy-peezy.

I stayed away from the knife on my shoulders both times and I think I am glad I did. This last one has been slow to heal, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel with regard to effective use, if a bit on the weaker side maybe for another 6-12 months.

It is much harder to build muscle mass for me now than even 10 years ago. It is a fine line between injuring myself and working my muscles hard enough to see some gains. My goal is to build as much muscle mass back as I can for the inevitable day (probably not that far away) when it becomes impossible not to lose a little each year.
I had both hips replaced in 2002, no problems yet .

That is great. Most people I talked to before I decided to go in always said, "I just wish I did it sooner". Now I know why they said that. I lost a lot of time trying things that I was hoping would obviate the need to have the surgery. Had I done it as soon as the first really bad pain started, I would be 4 years in I instead of 2.

yes, “I wish I had done that sooner“ you say to yourself I’ll never get that done ….. until the pain gets so bad that you can’t walk… hip surgery was a miracle..

My spinal fusion was sort of like that. I dealt with the pain for about 20 years until I thought I couldn't stand it. When I finally asked my doc when he thought I should consider surgery (at this point we had done pain shots and therapy and nerve ablation and tens (electrodes) therapy), he said "when you can't stand the pain anymore". I said to put me on the schedule asap-so he did. Post-op pain was nearly unbearable for about 2 days and I stayed in a drug-induced haze. Day 3 I decided I needed to get back to thinking clearly and refused pain meds. My rehab was walking daily. Had to relearn how to walk without a limp. Harder than I thought it would be.
Anyways...I do kinda wish I had done it sooner, but am also glad I waited til I just had to get it done.
