I wonder if one was to use a Ford part instead of aftermarket, would that void any warranty? Would they even notice the extra bolt or care ? Im comfortable denying i ever touched it and i guesd it came that way...
Use ford oem and say nothing. That's if they even notice.

I've got the Dayco tensioner coming from Rock Auto. Anyone know the bolt sizes/thread? Not in a hurry, but I'm going to change it. Too many tensioner failures that end up snapping the mounting point.

Has anyone had a tensioner fail and not had the mount point snap off?

I remember seeing notes for the Ford # on the bolts being M8x1.25x55mm

The W500114-S442 Ford bolt is an M8 x 55mm fastener primarily used for belt tensioners, engine water pump pulleys, and similar hardware. It is a genuine OEM part found on various 2.0L, 2.3L, and 2.5L Ford and Lincoln engines from 2011–2022.Key Details:Size: M8 Diameter x 55mm LengthApplication: Belt Tensioner, Water Pump PulleyCompatible Engines: 2.0L, 2.3L, 2.5L

That be it, Ford wants $8 ,for 1 ...

So Ford already had a better design and chose not to use it for some reason...

When my warranty is up, this looks like a smart move ... (I also thought lubing my slip joint was a smart move and that didn't and still hasn't gone well)
It’s almost like the PEX clamp scenario. “Hmm, I wonder if this fits?”

I’ll let myself out.

Thanks.

I just ordered a pack of 10 for $9.98 on Amazon. They have a shoulder, but it is easy enough to extend the threads if needed. 10.9 grade. I'll use loctite blue to insure they stay in place.

One less Ranger weakness to worry about.

I just did the same as a preventative measure. Went with the Motorcraft BT114 tensioner from Rock Auto. I know that all the reported failures on here have been 2020’s. Mine is a 2022 and I have an ESP plan. But if/when the oem fails it’s a mess and you’re down for the count. For me it’s cheap insurance. This also appears to be a great fix for someone who has a broken front cover. Besides, I think this gets me over the 5G forum expense for the month. I hope.

I think I recall a couple of newer years that failed as well.

I do think that the issue is an inherent design weakness and not a manufacturing process or QC one. It is basically a cantilever design. It flexes under sudden shock and breaks. Stupid design, and any engineer (and Ford) knows it.

Now if we could just find an option for the fan clutch debacle, I may finally get a good night's sleep 😴 💤...
