Tony @TJC sent me this video which is pretty cool seeing as Scotty has never bought a brand new vehicle in his life. The Camry impressed him so much that he went out and bought one. It's a good watch and he dives into it in typical Scotty fashion. lol

A whole bunch of Camry owners out there thinking: damn I wish I had a Ranger Ecoboost!

I just went on a 1,000 mile road trip on my wife's '23 GMC Denali SUV. What an amazing vehicle! It is fitted with a 3.6 liter V6 and 9-speed trans. Electronic Suspension, Adaptive Cruise Control, etc. Pretty fast too. Super quiet and smooth but the engine has a beautiful growl when you let her rip. 310 hp. Transmission always in the right gear (unlike the stock Ranger with a 10-speed). Motor never feels lazy. 27 mpg. Great ride and handling. We took this vehicle to Big Sur, up and down the super twisty and scenic Hwy 1 in California, and loved driving it. Nothing like having that huge sunroof open, drinking my favorite coffee, and driving a luxury liner of a car.

I'm close to retirement too. I love the wife's Denali and it's ultra-refined performance. But I prefer my Ranger Tremor. Tremor doesn't get better than 20 mpg. Although the motor is smooth, it doesn't have the buttery smoothness of GM's 3.6 liter V6. Doesn't sound as good either but it's not ugly to listen to. Yet I still prefer the truck. Can't really explain it. Makes me feel...manly and rugged. I am a rugged individualist anyway so the Ranger fits me perfectly. Mine has a tune so it feels like a Hot Rod to drive. Fast trucks are just so much fun to drive with so much attitude. I'll just drive the wife's smooth car once in a while, when I feel like being a law abiding nice old guy.

My new hybrid story:

So 3 weeks ago we got my wife a Kia Sorento Hybrid SX Prestige.

Now after 3 weeks we have just filled it up again, almost 600 miles and not quite 18 gallons.

The onboard lie-O-meter says 34mpg, which I feel is pretty good for a 3 row AWD SUV and also seems pretty accurate for what we got.

Kia was not even on my radar when we started looking.

We drove one and it drove much better than the other options we were shopping.

We got a lifetime powertrain warranty which sealed the deal for me being that it's a hybrid, and after dealing with Ford issues you can be sure warranty was up front in my mind.

It's got me thinking of an AWD Maverick hybrid, but I would prefer the higher capabilities of a hybrid Ranger.

I don't think he'll ever retire and I'm sure he's making huge 💰💰 off his videos having 6.63 million subscribers. He's a little tough to take sometimes but this was a good video and he wasn't to over the top. lol

He's a mechanic and a showman.... curious mix, and he's been successful!

This vid gives me sufficient reason to like him, was watching some NBA basketball recently and those worthless KIA Telluride X-Pro commercials make me want to puke.

that vid though is from 2021, smokey may have to change his opinion as a time goes on Hyundai/KIAs improve especially in the hybrid space. link to Telluride review added

Not sure how credible CR is anymore but they just ranked the Camry as having some of the best real word gas mileage. I can attest to it having averaged 53 MPG (combined Hwy/city) with the one I rented for a month. I'm getting closer and closer to buying one and I really want to test drive a full EV just to see the difference, everyone tells me the torque is really nice. I think the clincher would be if they offer a 0% financing then I'll pull the trigger. I just don't want to tie up my money right now on a second vehicle that we really don't need but I do want. Plus Annie hates driving my Ranger (which is a good thing :whew:) because she's so short she has a hard time seeing over the hood so she could drive the Camry. lol

Consumer Reports (CR) tested 2026 hybrid cars to find out their real-world fuel economy, and the results make a pretty compelling case for the class. Sitting near the top of that list is the 2026 Toyota Camry, which now comes standard as a hybrid across its entire lineup. Toyota advertises that the base LE trim can reach up to 51 miles per gallon in combined driving, while Consumer Reports' real-world testing of the same model approached roughly the same ballpark at 48 miles per gallon.

Toyota lists the Camry's base LE model at $29,300, which is pretty reasonable in a market where Kelley Blue Book says the average new vehicle transaction price reached $49,353 in February 2026. And since every 2026 Camry already comes with Toyota's hybrid powertrain, drivers won't need to spend extra to maximize their vehicle's fuel economy. While it's still not cheap enough to rank on CR's list of the best cheap cars, a new Camry is still priced competitively for a midsized sedan: A direct rival like the 2026 Honda Accord Sport Hybrid starts at a considerably higher $33,795.

my wife hates driving the f150 because of how tall and wide the thing is lol. she will drive it sometimes but prefers more midsize trucks and compact cars. atm she is wanting either a gx460 or a 4th gen 4runner it seems.

Our granddaughter was over last weekend with her new Toyota Highlander with 3 rows of seats. What a beautiful vehicle that is very comfortable and well laid out. They were lifetime Chevy fans and say it will be Toyotas from now on. Gas and It gets the same mileage as the Blazer they traded that was much smaller. That thing was huge inside and really sharp looking with a flawless interior. I can see why the Camry hybrid would be a big seller, especially with gas prices rising and Toyota quality.

Last week we had my wife's Forester in for NY inspection and they have a new Forester hybrid they are pushing. I asked the fuel mileage and was told about 34.5 mpg combined. We get 31.5 mpg on her gas one so just laughed and walked away. Amazing how little there was to gain for the extra dollars it costs.
