Strange “Tape” on Back Side of my Rearview Mirror is RFID Tag

I removed my non auto-dimming rearview mirror to see if the stalk could be modded to fit my Wolfbox and I noticed a strange piece of “tape” on the back…

I peeled it back as saw this…

Anyone else find RFID tags on their Ranger? In a different spot maybe?

Likely, but see how crooked it is? Must be for a Tremor.

Someone online suggested it is for the service department to track when and who is in for service, where the vehicle is, etc.

Maybe @Glocker knows if dealers use it for that purpose?

Was it a used truck for you, or new? If used, perhaps that was for a parking garage or even toll road pass.

Maybe go to the dealer you bought from and scope out other cars on the lot or in service. Perhaps they put that on so as soon as you pull into the service bay area your info is brought up on a screen so they can pretend they remember you by name.

Actually, I’m waiting to hear back from my sales guy. I have a feeling it’s a Ford inventory tracker or maybe a something for Michigan Assembly’s use.

If it’s a helpful Dealer Service item, I’ll leave it in place. If it’s for either of the other, I’ll just toss it.

The answer is, yes. Some dealers do use RFID stickers to match your vehicle to a profile in their system so they know when you arrive and the service writer can get your info pulled up quicker.

Yours however, is probably a NSA tracking device. They have you on satellite.

Decades ago, when I was a Small Business Account Manager at a bank, that was done by visiting the dealership and physically counting the cars on the lot.
