While we're talking tuners, has anyone had Unleashed and Livernois and can provide a comparison?

I'm currently stock but have the Livernois sitting on the shelf.

If I keep the truck I'm going to put a tune back on it and was curious if I should run what I have or if the Unleashed is appreciably better.

My Unleashed tune yield was 288 HP and 387 lb/ft of torque @3000 rpms, my original Dyno is posted here somewhere …
edit…look here…”Some dyno results for the naysayers.”
page 3 😀

I use the Ford Procal and couldn't be happier. It made an immediate and very noticeable difference in power and shifting. It pulls my 6,000#+ camper up hills with no problem. Since my truck was still under warranty it maintains Ford's warranty. It is available from places like Stage3 for substantially less than Ford's price. It may not provide the absolute maximum output, but Ford engineers feel it still maintains the drivetrain longevity and it made a huge difference.
Premium fuel required?

Yep. Ford Performance Tune requires it and it's highly recommended when towing anyway
Not really, Ford suggests it (93) to get the most performance out of the tune. You can run 87-89 but you won't get the additional HP and torque with it. If you run 87-89, the knock preventer will take over.

Unleashed user here. With nothing in the bed it rips off consistent 5.05-5.2 second 0-60 times on the Dragy. Launching in 4wd stops the wheel spin. The only issue I have with it is the harsh shifting in sport mode, Torrie is super responsive and I'm sure I could get this ironed out, but I don't like to dick with stuff all the time and just leave it in drive. I have an 87 and a 93 tune, I've only loaded the 87 when gas prices went bonkers. I ended up doing a 30 day price comparison on 93 vs 87 and it cost me less than $10 week to just run the 93, so that's all I've run the past few months.
No complaints here.

Please understand that the Livernois softer shift tune is still more aggressive than stock. I run it and love it. And you can change between Livernois tunes in minutes.

Let me throw my tattered hat in here..
First off…. Maybe it’s just me, turbo’d engine.. spring for the 91-93 period.. just how I roll..
the LV tune from my understanding is a 91-93 Oct tune.. (my area highest we yield is 91 😭) I can go out of town and get 100+ but I don’t feel like dragging barrels home. (Stupid SF Bay Area Cali)..
You want aggressive give loweredon33’s an shout.. pretty sure he knows what will blow the wheels off a Ranger via tuner wise… think it might be unleashed..
I went LV (livernoise)… LV seems to have been a hand in the FPT (Ford performance tune)..
But doesn’t lock you vehicle to that particular tuner.
I have the LV.. finishing my mods out before going through the final email to say I want xyz. (Got side tracked since I’m a suspension nerd😬)..
As far as having a onezie tune.. ehhh the gear head in me says “huh”…
A race horse doesn’t need the same table as a badass mule..
So a one size fits all gives me heartburn thinking about it… something is going to suffer more than the other.. x will hurt more than y or y will hurt more than x…depending on what you’re doing G (gas mileage)will always hurt though😂.
I had 1000 to the wheels Mitsubishi evo8.. but I wouldnt trust it to tow my dad in a wheelchair.. and I’ve had a dodge 2500 scab that couldn’t get out of its own way..however it would pull the front of a house off…(yes I know I’m comparing a 4cyl turbo to a tubby v8.. but I’ve always said a 4cyl turbo is like a high powered v6 or a slow v8..it just has to burp before it runs).
Running a specific tune will make things favorable to the application..
Luckily the 2.3 is pretty solid in both regards but it needs to have the right figuring..so if you have the opportunity to get a hotrod tune, eco tune, and tow tune.. plan your drives and take that 15-20mins to make the adjustments accordingly… just my two cents.
Also if you can don’t run less than premiums (91-93’s) the 2.3 works well with it.
Having multiple times will “prolong” the life of the engine.. a swissarmy engine will just be mediocre at every thing. When you could get good results with specific settings. Again just my opinion.

I’ve been running the Livernois tunes for over 95,000 miles on the Ranger with zero issues. I prefer the 93 performance tune. But since I tow frequently I just keep the tow/haul tune installed. Not saying Livernois is the best. Just that running a tune has not caused any issues for me personally. I put it back to stock one day just because. After 10 miles I re uploaded the tune. I preferred the tune that much more than stock.

It's probably the crap gas in Oregon(best I can score is 92 octane), but one time I put regular gas in by mistake with my Ford Performance tune, it ran horribly enough to scare me. I think I let it get to quarter tank or something & added premium fuel right away. It ran normally after that.

In Oregon you have 85 as Regular Gas. It's the same for Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Idaho. Looking at the book it states to not run lower than 87 octane(and yes it makes a difference)

Not sure what the cause was then, but with regular gas/Ford Performance tune at least couple times I thought it was going to stall.
