That’s some great info but how does one or what to use to check fluid temp that’s not that expensive?
That would be the stock dipstick, you just have to crawl under it or have it up on a hoist, then stay clear of the hot exhaust.
If you have to add fluid or service the transmission, up on a rack or jack stands makes it much easier.
I will add, if it is up on a rack to make sure it's level, I was in the dealer where I used to work and the guy had the truck up in the air and it was sitting with the back lower than the front, it was far from level how he racked it.

There is much easier but more expensive option available of course!

Lol, I have one of your custom dip sticks as I got mine on the second run you made.. I was asking how do you see what the temp of the fluid? What scanners or ? Is needed to see the temp? And was a tester for your funnel run..

You can use the time chart on the last page of the PDF file in my original reply to you to get real close to those temps. Truck was at idle the entire time with the AC on. Don't know if the AC matters, just added for completeness. You've got almost 20 minutes of wiggle room between 140F and 180F to get between 5 and 6, then use the quick cold fill to validate /top it off. Fluid at 140F is at 6 (idle time of 17:50), 180F is at 5 (idle time of 37:20).

Do yourself a favor, purchase and install a Fitzstick. The job gets a a whole lot easier with Fitz's dipstick and funnel. An ORDER OF MAGNITUDE EASIER!

No crawling under a hot truck, no getting dirty, no getting burned.

Suck the fluid out through the dipstick with a $16 pump from Amazon, and refill. I do it in under 35 minutes and never spill a drop....going out or putting in.

I goofed up, I read it as checking fluid level not temps, and yes, I very much remember you as an early customer! you were on my original list👍

Which pump do you have? I bought a manual one from Harbor Freight and the hose wouldn't fit down the tube.

I bought a Dasbet 12 Volt Oil Change Pump Extractor on Amazon....$14.00. Works extremely well and included a hose that slid down the Fitzstick tube.
Now have an Expedition....no Fitzstick but planning on still using the pump to extract and fill trans using the OE dipstick.....

This one from Amazon which is now $13.99. Has everything you need, except for two 1 gallon milk jugs. I did weight the outlet hose with a brass fitting just to keep it in the milk jug. It wants to curl up.

And before beginning I poured 1 quart of water into the jugs marking each quart with a black sharpie so I could easily determine what I pulled out.

I then just put that amount back in. Don't forget the LubeGuard Platinum!

I also use a 50 year old 12v analog battery charger to power the pump. Easier on the battery.

One last thought and I really shouldn't have to say this. Seems obvious to me.... Use the hose clamps to secure the hoses to the pump. Transmission fluid is slippery and those hoses will fly off under pressure. I recall someone complaining about this happening.

Click on the link below to go the Amazon entry.

Times 2 ^^^^,
Exactly what I did using clear one gallon distilled water jugs, clamps, and weights. Do it right and you won't spill one drop of tranny fluid.

The 3/8" poly hose from any home improvement center will go right down the dipstick, just cut the end at an angle.

I bought similar hose from our local mom and pop hardware store, where you cut it yourself, and just tell the cashier what you have. I used it with my old NAPA brake bleeder pump when adding Lubegard and slightly overfilled fluid from the dealer. Can only pump out about 5oz. at a time though, so might upgrade to an elec. pump.

At $14 it's a no brainer!

Engine temp has nothing to do with it. You need to me monitoring the trans temp. There's very little link to engine temp most of the time.
With all due respect, it's rather difficult to bring the transmission to temp without the engine running!

What I meant was, you can have a fully warmed up engine and stone cold transmission.

It takes forever to warm up a 10R80 unless you're towing or really beating on it.
