The new rangers have a cover/insulator over the high pressure fuel pump.

Definitely! Don't know why Ford didn't do this with the Rangers from the start.
Yes you do!

Cutting corners and using customers as beta testers instead of doing basic research.

It hasn't turned out well for Ford either, with warranty repairs now taking a big chunk of their projected profits.

Finally got around to installing mine. It will work with the JCR engine cover, clears it with a mm to spare.

Saw this on Facebook where someone noticed the new rangers have a cover on the high pressure fuel pump. lt supposedly fits the 19-23 and drastically reduced the pump noise. It's made of the same material as the engine cover. Might also p
rotect that area from the famous drip onto the engine.

Looks like it would keep water out of cylinder 4 spark plug

My wife’s explorer has one that covers just the pump. Did spark plugs yesterday and it wasn’t in the way at all. Seems flimsy tho. I hear her engine less than mine, but there is probably more interior sound deadening too.

The problem with that cover is that you have to make a cut into it to get it over the fuel line, thus possibly defeating the 'water proofing' ability.
See post #34 about the Cover.

If you find the pump noise that bad go ahead and do it, if you're worried about water I'd do the JCR cover and rubber edging I did a post on, it works very well.

It's a better solution than adding more mouse food to your engine bay.
can you show me what you did? I have a 2024 model, I did the pipe insulation thing on a 2021

I know this is an old thread. It was very helpful and I was able to put the cover over the hpfp. Id say this probably quieted it down by 50%.

As someone previously mentioned it seems like I lot of the noise resonates through the bracket. Could the bracket be removed? Or perhaps rubber washers installed on the bolts?

I suppose one could try and add some rubber washers between the bracket and pump; you would most likely have to spread the bracket apart some.
It's been almost a year since I installed the cover and had that bracket off, I recall it was a tight fit.
How much extra noise reduction will it provide? 🤷‍♂️
The noise never really bothered me, but since I park in a garage, it is notably quieter with the added cover.

Removing the bracket does reduce the noise a little, I drove around for a while without it, but being a safety item, I was compelled to put it back on, although, I thought if I am in such a bad accident I need the pump protection, I got big problems anyways.

I did put a layer of dense closed cell foam between the bracket and the pump when I put it back on.

Thanks for the input! I figured the bracket was just for protection and I completely agree that if your in that bad of an accident that little bracket isn't going to matter. I also figured that with the cover over it now, that adds a layer of protection to it.

Did the added foam between the pump and bracket seem to help any?

Its just unfortunate that the sound is that much of an annoyance to me. So if removing it can help drop the sound more, its completely worth it to me.

Hard to say what the foam did, I went from no bracket to bracket with foam.

What does not make sense, Ford should be able to either tune out the noise through pump valve timing and bypass relief settings, or with lifter lash and cam lobe profile.

At Honda Racing we used two DI pumps per engine, you can fully tune the noise, as well as lifter lash and closing ramp on the cam, we did it to isolate the mechanical noise so the knock sensors did not pick it up, but it was not a mass produced application, should be similar in some ways I would think.

Actually, the Ford fix is the cover I guess, something simple, cheap!
