My son is 16 and has only been driving for a couple of weeks. He was out with his mom on a road that I told them he wasn't ready for yet. She yelled at him to slow down in a reducing radius curve on a country road. He did what any inexperienced driver would do. They flew off the road, hit a tree a glancing blow and rolled down an embankment. He's terribly upset, but physically fine. She's got some impressive scrapes & bruises and is sore. They could just as easily have died.

I really enjoyed my Ranger and thought I would keep it around for my retirement, this is much preferable to the alternative. I will try to post pictures in the morning.

The important thing here is that your family is relatively ok. Ranger did it's job and protected them, and for that we are all grateful for your family's survival of the accident.
Sounds terrifying!

Yeah, your family is what is important, the Ranger can be replaced, your family can't. As Chris said, your Ranger did its job and protected them. Happy to hear that they are okay. Prayers are with you and your family. 🙏

Glad everyone was ok. You can easily replace your Ranger but never your loved ones. One thing I'll say is that out of all the horrific accidents we've seen on here the Ranger does its job protecting those inside.

I was thinking the same thing. People have posted some pretty dramatic crashes here and walked away with general soreness only. Kudos to the safety/design teams at Ford.

to the OP, I was a teenager statistic many moons ago. Hit a tree at high speed with my Honda civic late at night. Like your son, I walked away from it virtually unscathed. It was one helluva learning experience. I’m glad to hear your family is okay! Hopefully it becomes a critical learning experience for your son and he’s a safer driver moving forward.

I'm glad your family is OK. Bruises and scrapes will heal. It can't be said enough though, things can be replaced. We are all enthusiast here and really like our trucks, but, no material thing can replace the ones we love. Take care of yourself and your family.

Like everyone else has said, glad to hear that the Ranger did its job, protected your family and let them walk away from that.

As a teen, I was a little too confident in my nascent driving ability, took a hairpin curve a little too fast, skidded on black ice and slammed into the guardrail, totaling my mom's car, but buddy and I walked away from it without a scratch. Learned a lesson that day, and hopefully your boy did too.

My kid turns 16 in a few short months, so God help me and my Ranger. Already have the lessons lined up with an instructor that we know will teach both "exam driving" and "real driving", and the kid knows that just because they pass the government exam doesn't automatically mean they've passed mine. We've already been doing theory every time they get into the truck since they were old/big enough to sit in the front passenger seat.

God I hate to admit this but the fears my parents had when I was a teen.. I understand now. I'm sure you are feeling the same.

My 15yo son started his driving classes this weekend. He THINKS he will be using the Ranger. He also tries to debate on why I should just give him the GTO.
My plan is to get him a 90s model nissan truck or ranger. Single cab and 4cyl. Slow and minimal passangers. Still, a teen will be a teen. Just trying to minimize it.
