Do you think I'm being ridiculously cautious having it done now at 20,500 miles? Maybe wait until 30,000 for a flush? I asked the service counter guy about cost last time I was at the Ford dealer and off the top of his head, he told me around $400.I would think you would want to get most if not all the factory fluid out. So a flush. I did mine around 55k and plan on a pan drop and filter change at minimum around 75 or 80k.
Lubegard Platinum is the product you want. The gray bottle, not red.
If you are not having any symptoms, it might be early. But it seems to be beneficial regardless. If you put it off, I would still add the Lubegard.Do you think I'm being ridiculously cautious having it done now at 20,500 miles? Maybe wait until 30,000 for a flush? Now I'm wondering if he was giving me an estimated price on just a fluid change. Will have to call next week and inquire when I make my appt for the oil change and 20,000 miles service.FYI: Just had a flush on one of my cars at 84K miles. Labor $359, 20 quarts of trans fluid $425... I looked and getting the correct fluid the best I could do was $23 per quart.
So a proper flush is pricy.
He probably did. I paid around $400 for the flush alone. Now I'm wondering if he was giving me an estimated price on just a fluid change. Will have to call next week and inquire when I make my appt for the oil change and 20,000 miles service.
Is adding the Lubegard something I can do myself? I know my old Mountaineer has a fill spout where I check transmission fluid under the hood... never looked to see if the Ranger has one under the hood. I know there are women out there who are not mechanically challenged, but other than checking wiper fluid, oil level, tire air pressure, and detailing my truck... that's my extent. If you are not having any symptoms, it might be early. Ah, no. The first thing you need to do is buy a Fitzstick. It is a true replacement dipstick for the tiny thing they put on the Rangers at the factory. It is well worth the money and is essential for keeping tabs on fluid level. Is adding the Lubegard something I can do myself? Oh I know the $400 didn't include the oil change or any other service. I'm wondering if the around $400 estimate was for just a "fluid change" vs. a "fluid flush".He probably did. I paid around $400 for the flush alone.
