I used an oil wrench, an impact, and cannot get any movement from my oil filter. Even tried gripping with sandpaper and nothing. Any advice? It’s a pain in the butt to access in general

As a last resort only, drive a long screwdriver through it. Or something long and sharp. Be sure it is pointed where you have room to turn it.

Go to Harbor Freight and buy the three armed style along with a long extension or extensions for your ratchet. It's what I had to use on mine after breaking other methods. The three armed style will tighten on the end of the filter.

I bought a set of 3 and with what I have my ratchet is outside of the body line. It really is up to you where you'd like to work from and of course how much wrenching you plan to do in the future.

One thing that you can try that I have found useful in many cases is to get a very good grip on the oil filter with an oil filter wrench of your choice and when you start to turn it you can put a lot of pressure on it but do not jerk and try not to collapse the filter itself but turn it with a lot of force but slowly because you're trying to get the rubber to break loose from the metal housing. Trying to shock it loose will not work because of that rubber. The screwdriver through the oil filter is an absolute last resort because most of the time it will only act like a can opener and peel the metal away.

This! I just went through the same thing a few weeks ago. I normally do oil changes with the truck on the ground, but needed to jack up the left front tire to get enough leverage to get it off. I used a 12" extension with the 3 arm universal oil filter adapter. Worked like a charm! I was sure not to over tighten it this time. :)

Be sure to put some oil on the gasket of the new filter and hand tighten only. I do it this way and have never had a leaker in 62 years of changing my oil. I have also never had a situtaion where I couldn't get one off doing it this way.

It's sad that whatever tools you have to spend money on to get that filter off, may conceivably be the last time you use them, after properly installing filters from here on.

I’ve spent an extra $50 today… still at $140 total with oil, filter, and cabin filter. Cheaper than the dealership but yeah lol pain in the ass. Still can’t get it off

Who put this filter on? They had to have installed it with a dry gasket.
That and/or gorilla tight. Amazing how hard some of these shops crank them on. Oil the filter gasket and hand tight on my vehicles for decades and never had an issue.

The dealer did this to me twice, I don't take it there anymore. I have to remove that plastic deflector off of the bottom of the filter location, that would give me room under there.
