275/65/18 - Pics and Feedback Please!!!

I currently have 60K+ miles on stock Hankooks. 265/60/18.

For my next set, I think I'm going Eibach all around and would like a slightly larger tire. I'd like a firmer, smoother ride and to beef up the stance a bit. So I'm having the common 265/65 vs 275/65 debate.

I've read numerous threads...but still have some specific questions:

For those that have gone to 275, do you feel any handling benefit vs 265? Or is the difference not enough to really feel? This is kind of key for me....if there's no decent difference in feel, I don't think 275s make sense for me.

Also, will 275s rub when level? Would I be able to keep any rake with 275s? I don't want it completely level. I like my trucks look with a bit of rake - I have a cap also.

I drive a lot and want the best, smoothest ride I can get. I got the Ford Tune recently and now I'd like to tighten up the suspension a bit. My Ranger is a road and highway driver with a handful of OBX beach trips mixed in. So basically zero offroading.

Also, I'd love to see some 275/65 or 265/65 pics!

I started with Bilsteins 5100's at 1.75" lift and 275/70-18 with 18x9 +25 RTR Wheels
Better crash bars, stock ones were ugly.

Great setup, simple, 32 lbs of air. Rides great, No rubs! Econonomonomically sound, maybe not.


I now have Stage 7(ish) ICON full suspension at 2" upfront, and 1.5" in the rear. I have bed stuff and I tow, so I have some rake and I like that look.

Headed towards doing 275-70-18 (33's) with a +19mm wheel and blame @Colo_Ranger

I suspect your cap will be good to soften the harsh jarring and smooth it out, I had a '97 Ranger and the Canopy made it ride great. btw, look at all the other thread suggestions below about 18's.

My vote if you are changing stuff... 275's with a new wheel to move it out a touch, 1.5" to 2" bump in the front, and maybe bars. Your results may vary.


Anybody want 18" Grey RTR's with 275/65's on them at about 8K miles? Killer deal!

Do you think the spacers could actually caused the rub?

Good chance of it. The scrub radius increased. That being said with the spacers there was no rub with 265/65R18

You’re on the right track with the choices you’re considering - try not to become the “princess and the pea” with small differences in tire size. The ride difference between 265 vs 270 can only be measured by NASA, and then it would likely still have a +/- 5 mm qualifier.

Don’t over think it or you’ll go mad trying to decide. ?

Yea that's only 1/2 inch total height and total width difference from 265/65 to 275/65. Or even .4" width if the comparison tool is right for those tires. You were right on the edge

Not near as shiny in real life, more of a matte, but I'll get a pic tomorrow for you, its dark at the moment.

I do Zero offroading.... my truck sees all-season highway miles....

The OE Kan't-Hooks 255/65R17 were down-right dangerous in snow/slush highway driving...
Even in 4x4 mode too
Had to take alot of air out of the rear tires to get any grip & help keep the truck pointing straight

I have the Eibach on my truck. Front is set to about one inch of height. Ride is so much better than stock. At about 45K I replaced the stock tires with Wildpeaks in 255/70/18. No rubbing issues at all.

yea I just got completely sideways on 45mph road in Tahoe on them. Close call after 4 hour very early drive, but I should have been in 4 so that woke me up!

Yea they do look gray vs black, good look on that truck. So you went from 8" to 9" on the rims plus less offset, are you sitting out over an inch or so? Mine are pretty tucked in with the stock 18's and 55 offset

There are grey and black, mine are grey.

Mine don’t really poke out, they’re right on the edge. I am going to add Tremor flares and go out another 1/2” with a +19 wheel

Mine is an XLT Sport, so I originally had crappy 255’s. It needed to be moved out.

I have on my ‘20 XLT 285/65-18 AT tires.
Bought this pickup equipped this way.
18x9 Fuel wheels, not sure of the offset but they poke out slightly from my fender flares even, so I will guess 01 or -12 offset.
I will pull a wheel and check specs…
Oh, crash bars removed.
I am going to sell these wheels and get something more to my liking. And maybe more positive offset.

This is a great article by enthusiasts on the differences. Bilstein vs Eibach vs Fox. I went with Eibach because I do some fire road travel and some of those are smoother than the potholes on paved roads. I run a 30 mile round trip ride on a twisty mountain road twice a week and find myself going 5 mph faster than I used to. I may be old but it is still fun.

Thanks for the link! I've seen that before - very good comparison. I was originally set on Billsteins, but that video turned me to Eibachs.
