So are you implying that just getting a stainless steel one is better?

Just saying don't get bent out of shape if/when the coating starts to degrade. When mine started to burn off it didn't bother me....but seems to bother others. But, remember, there aren't too many coatings available that are not going to degrade via heat/dirt/gravel, ect hitting it on a constant basis.
Anything coated with something that will truly withstand a beating will cost mucho more than a few bucks.
The coating on the frame of my $40 grand truck peeling.......would be royally pissed...(hasn't happened)
Coating on my $30 buck aftermarket exhaust tip burning off.....didn't even lose a fart over it...

I mean... The thing does sit immediately behind the tire.. so it takes a beating lol. My fancypants AFE powder coated tip was bare steel after just a few months.

My Go Rhino suffered a similar fate - sandblasted and oxidized.

Hey guys,

I’m looking for an aftermarket exhaust tip for my “Blanger” (black Ranger). Something simple that will look good, but will also hold up and not discolor, rust, etc.
I’d prefer something in black to match my truck color. I have heard about some people just painting the stock tip black.
I’m not looking for something that will change the exhaust noise, just purely aesthetic. Something better looking than the stock exhaust tailpipe.

Any recs?

Well, at least these might keep their coating for a while. Not long ago I ordered the following from Ford Accessories:
https://www.ford.com/product/hitch-shackle-kit-by-curt-p2790192914.

Returned them the next day. Despite the description "Protected by a highly durable carbide powder coat finish" the finish was already peeling when I opened the box. Bought that with a discount they were offering, which could have been much better spent if I'd known.

Best bet would be to just buy whatever tip you like, and keep a can of flat/matt black header paint on hand. Just give it a spray every few months when it starts to show wear.
Header paint is usually good to 700-800 degrees and your tip won't get anywhere near that.

DYI rattle can black for me. Have yet to repaint but would be a simple fix. Can't remember but I might have used BBQ black heat paint.?

I have (had) the Rhino one too. After 3 years and 94,000km I did have to touch it up last week. As others noted - a few passes of BBQ black and it looked good as new.

I did cut off about 4” of the stock tail pipe. This allowed the tip to tuck in a bit more. And, protected behind a mud flap.

Looks like easy install. No other parts needed? No cutting of the stock pipe?

I got the same one. I cut about 7" off the tailpipe so you don't see it inside the tip. With a Sawzall* it took literally 8 seconds. The ass end of the truck is high so I painted the rest of the tailpipe up to the axle with hi-temp BBQ grill paint so it blends in, but I'm more of a detail guy than most people.

*Reciprocating saws are handy AF if you do any kind of work at all around your house. A cheap one from Harbor Freight is fine for something you might use a couple times a year. Get a wood blade, a metal blade, and a tree blade and you're good. Saves a ton of time.

go to your favorite auto parts store and see if they have anything which may suit your taste.
Hint: I work at an Advance Auto Parts, and we just put a bunch of tips on clearance and took them off the regular shelf and moved them to our clearance section, they were about 2 bucks a piece. I know we don't have them any more, some kid came in, found them, and bought them all. More were sent to another store (we do that), so maybe a google search and a brief conversation with someone at the counter to ask if they'll get one for you. I wouldn't even hesistate if you were close. Prices may vary, but seriously, these were a couple bucks.
